Hatching quail eggs in my Seaside Home

in #dtube5 years ago (edited)

I love to Plan for Spring at this time of the year

and that planning for me almost always involves some new animal lifeform. As I've not ever given into the desire for sheep/cows/goats (though we do live on three acres) it's usually birds.

I love that birds can travel in their egg form long distance to be born with you.

There is something very "New Year" about receiving eggs in the mail, carefully nurturing them in an incubator and patiently awaiting their arrival that just gives me so much Hope and Joy for the coming year. Especially as, though we've had some lovely warm weather of late, as of yesterday we are back in the 20s F with snow predicted tonight.

The Sea will be chilly with waves capped in ice.

But, whilst that gales outside, I'll happily be drawing and journaling away and keeping an eye on my little guys growing in their little shells.

What makes you hopeful for Spring?

I hope wherever you are that you get a chance to dream of whatever YOUR favourite season happens to be.

As always, if you feel so inclined, upvote, resteem, and by all means comment.

It's summer here ;D and it doesn't get that cold in winter (though for the past couple of years it really feels like it's gotten colder o_O) and it's hard not to love winter for the rain. I otherwise usually really look forward to the warmer weather and less pain (long term injury).

Yay quails XD was semi-contemplating breeding some but after finding out they're terrible parents and the amount of extra setup work we'd need we bailed out.

Yeah quail, at least coturnix, are horrible parents usually. IF you give them a more natural pen with grass and branches to hide in they MIGHT go broody, but they've been breed SO long out of it, it's pretty rare.

A fun project could be getting quail and a couple silkie hens. Silkies make WONDERFUL mothers and are small breeds. They can usually successfully hatch and raise the quail chicks and it's funny to watch!

I can't wait to have the little bumble bee sized chicks soon!

We've had silkies, pekins and Japanese bantams (my favourite) before, watching them brood gigantic clutches was hilarious XD watching them with quail chicks would be even funnier!
