Reaction Rant to Marky on the Air tonight.

in #dtube5 years ago

So I was listening to @themarkymark, @justineh, @whatsup, and someone else that I'm not sure who it was tonight on "Marky on the Air" on the PAL discord for some fun discussions on relevant topics on our blockchain. I made this video rant giving my opinion on some things, give it a listen if you want :)

Sorry my little loop stopped about half way through, you can totally just listen anyway. The loop is made by one of my favorite artists Beeple who has a ton of Creative Commons VJ loops.

Yep, I agree as well and it for sure is something that is discussed a lot.. and is quite frustrating. We need to be focusing on user experience, that’s just common sense.

I will say that based on what I’ve been told, these sort of developments were previously difficult to implement. As they had to be done in the code of the chain itself, which meant forks, and front end changes alone were not seen as a reason for multiple forks. With the hivemind development though, these code changes are no longer needed, and these sorts of front end changes can be done easier. So I am told.

There are many things that have been suggested and are on sort of an ongoing “list”.. resteems with comment and donations are some of those suggested features as well as the ability for an author to “pin” posts on their blog (like is seen on steemit.com for Steemit Inc.), also categories etc. So, hopefully.. hopefully we will see more of these rolling out soon.

I believe the development of the chain itself has always taken main stage and that means the actual UX of the Steemit site has been far down on the list.. I also think it’s absurd.. because as you said, we need to make a good product if we actually want someone to use it.

But the Steemit Inc. company had all these plans and then things happened.. they seem to be trying to find their place again, but yeah.. I think they have always been a bit detached from reality. Time to realize they need some experts and hire them 🙂

Thanks for listening to us rant and adding your feedback as well. I agree with you on most points. And even though Steem itself is more than just a blogging platform... blogging is a pretty core function of it currently, and it’s silly to ignore our user base. We have to change.

Oh, and don’t get me started on the community manager lol.. I rant about this daily. It’s so needed that it is painful!

Oh yea, don't get me wrong, I totally agree. Steem is MUCH more than blogging, but Steemit, Busy, Steempeak, Esteem, Steeve, etc. These are all blogging platforms. The main "Things that are currently made with Steem"

I could also point to something like KryptoGames, it's gambling, buuuuut UI bruh...cmon. It should have sounds and blinking lights and feel fun and exciting. Anyway, I'm ranting again. Thanks for listening and the thoughtful comment 😊 We'll get there.

I'll admit that I listened to this entire talk, but it was worth it. Well said. I agree with just about everything, and have pondered much of the same over time. I didn't listen to the show, but your points have refueled some motivation for me to try to put some ideas down on paper. I was big into marketing before I changed career paths, but much of this clicked to convince me to try to put that to good use.

Thanks for listening @steemmatt. You should totally do that. At this point anyone with some relevant skills, I'd definitely encourage to step up and get in the game :)

Hey @midlet

Thanks for listening to the show. You made a lot of good points here. I totally agree with what you said.

A lot of Steem products are not built by companies or even senior developers so they may not have the experience or resources to build AAA quality products and user experiences.

I can say I have that type of sympathy for Steemit.com though, they have the time, resources, and man power to do better than what we have now. I really hope the SPS allows us to do parallel development on features the community find important.

Thanks @themarkymark, it was definitely an interesting discussion and I'll be tuning in in the future. Thanks for listening to me rant as well.

I wrote a response to you here:

Why I've powered down: Response to @midlet on state of development on STEEM

I think we can keep the dream alive, but i think being loyal to steem is a waste of effort, and in fact steem can only correct itself once the platform as a whole acknowledges this. As a user however don't let loyalties to a platform replace the search for a truely p2p user owned publishing network.

Gonna make a video reply once I get a second.

I made a video in response, it's on my blog. I'll also just say, I'm not really interested in platform loyalty. I think STEEM has its issues and I largely agree with a lot of what you've pointed out, but I'm not here out of loyalty, I still think even with those problems, this will be the one. I of course could be wrong, but that's where I'm at now.

Thank you so much for participating in the Partiko Delegation Plan Round 1! We really appreciate your support! As part of the delegation benefits, we just gave you a 3.00% upvote! Together, let’s change the world!
