The Mysterious Stepped Pyramids of Mauritius & Tenerife
There are mysterious stepped pyramids on these two exotic islands of Tenerife and Mauritius.
While the site in Tenerife has been extensively documented since the 90s by the renowned adventurer and ethnographer Thor Heyerdhal, the ones in Mauritius are still waiting to be properly investigated.
Some features of the pyramids display the level of advancement their builders possessed. The construction technique is identical for both islands, the pyramids consist of six to eleven terraces, have flat bases and stone stairways leading to the top platform. Other than this, they have a perfect astronomical alignment towards the summer and winter solstices.
Their builders are unknown, but Heyerdhal's research suggests the Gaunche-a mysterious seafaring group predominantly white-skinned, blue-eyed and with golden hair who established camp on the isle of Tenerife around 1,000 BC, were the original pyramid builders. If the same applies for Mauritius, we can only speculate, as the site there is poorly documented.
