VLOG #1 - Concerns about DTube

in #dtube7 years ago

This is my very first, unedited and scripted video log. I need to get better at looking at the camera and other basic stuff.

My concern for DTube!

First, what is DTube?

DTube is a platform, using the Steem blockchain, to share video content with others. Decentralised alternative for YouTube.
It uses blockchain and bittorrent technology to share the content to other viewers.

What is the STEEM blockchain?

The Steem blockchain, is a blockchain technology that combines IPFS with distribution of content. This content can be text based, like with steemit.com, video content
or sound content. For everything using the steem blockchain, you can earn STEEM or STEEM Dollars when people upvote your content. And Steem is a cryptocurrency,
that will probably rise in 2018.

What is the concern about DTube then?

My concern is:
Since DTube is not centralised, it can't be moderated. Since it can't be moderated it can not uphold copyright claims.
What is to stop people from uploading copyrighted content to DTube?
And because of that, what is to keep DTube from becoming the defacto standard for sharing copyrighted material?
Since it is using bittorrent to share the content, it is basicly unstoppable.
This is not to mention the risc of getting in terorist videos or something similar.

I also noticed an increased trend in the sexual content on DTube, like straight up porn clips has popped up.
Could this be a new platform for the porn industry to put out the short "teasers"?
Maybe not, maybe it's just the amatuers, that will use it to spread the word about them.

But it also has promise!

Now that I have vented my immidiate concerns about DTube, and what it might be used for, I want to say that I think it's a great platform!
The idea behind it, the tech behind it and ofcourse the fact, that it's the first true open source alternative to Youtube's monopoly, makes it great.
I know I am gonna use it more, to post my videos, and will probably also use it's "sister" project, DLive.
DLive is a streaming platform, like Twitch, but it uses the same tech as DTube. I have not been a very active streamer, but I might change that,
if DLive proves to be a solid platform.

The very best thing about these services though, is that you will make money of the content you create. The reason is that it all uses the steemit blockchain.
Ofcourse it's not directly dollars you make, but STEEM and STEEM Dollars. These can be traded into Bitcoin, which can be traded into your regular local currency
at exchanges.

Thank you

Thank you for watching my little rant about the concerns about this new platform. I will have a good eye on it, and we will just have to see what the future holds.
Take care, and remember. The NSFW tag is there for a reason.
