Electrochemical Exfoliation of Graphite to make Graphene
Graphene can be synthesized by the electrochemical exfoliation of graphite.
A positive voltage on the graphite pulls the negatively charged ions in the solution towards it. The ions burry themselves between the graphene layers where they then turn into gasses. This gas formation causes the graphite to expand which results in graphene sheets gently floating into the solution. This method actually produces large area flakes with very few defects.
The graphene flakes can then be collected, filtered, and dried. The powdered material can then be mixed into a variety of different solvents and mixtures.
