A Life Off of Earth
As science and tech move towards a new age of space travel, I have been pondering the future of life off of the Earth. Not just in space but on another planet entirely. We have an interest in not going extinct. This is because there are many things that people want to do, and it would be a great calamity to see our species wiped out for one reason or another.
But at present, I feel it to be highly unlikely that we will move to another planet. Of course, if we did move to another planet, then it is likely that we would wipe out all life on the planet. This would be a great disappointment for us. We are already causing great disappointment to many creatures on our own planet but this is an unavoidable instance of cohabiting in a world.
When one considers the fact that there are many people living in poverty, it would be very difficult for them to move into space. Most of the population is too busy trying to survive on Earth, and they are not going to miraculously gain a huge amount of money and also instantly gain the necessary knowledge to learn about a different planet before making a voyage and populating a new planet. Rather, this is a reserved effort that will most likely be hand picked by the world’s most elite.
Another point to make is that the sheer financial burden involved in space travel, and the majority of people do not have a lot of money. This is the barrier put into place and perhaps an avoidable one. The price for one ticket from Earth to Mars is an extraordinary sum. That's just too much for most people.
The initial cost of building a colony on a planet such as Mars would be very expensive. Every single detail would need to be planned, tested and accounted for through various means. There are many potential issues that could arise during the journey, even stability on Earth continues to float in the air.
