Low budget DIY sprouting trays made at home in 15mins

For just £1 I have created an alternative set of sprouting trays which will be used on my windowsill so that I can add huge amounts of nutrition to my body in just a few small bites, keeping me feeling chipper throughout the day.

This purple kale for example grew in three days made me feel great! I munched on it exactly as you can see it here. No extras needed.

Amazon

For all it's convenience it is great but let's face it, there is always a better way...

This is the one I bought last week.

The better way!

These I bought in a pound shop in my local village. Three for £1.

The quartz crystal is preparing them for the task ahead with some focused intention.

Each layer has small holes leading to the next layer, permitting for some air flow and root growth.

Equipment

All I needed was a kitchen knife and some sellotape. Oh and a few pins to hold the drainage layer at the bottom at an elevated level though it may be that I don't need these pins at all. Still learning here...

Naturally I will show you how it works in comparison to its expensive brother once I have some sprouting seeds in there.

This broccoli arrived yesterday thanks to the awesome suggestion of @trucklifefamily

Can't wait to taste them!!!!

The need for constant creativity

I have noticed here in the UK how much I need to keep my creative juices flowing. Or perhaps this need has been forever, it's just that now there are no kids around and things actually get finished in record time!

For example I am intending to buy an essential oil burning device for my bedroom because I have some french lavender oil with me. These kind of devices are cheap and I've seen some good ones on sale in town.

Anyway, I couldn't just wait till tomorrow's Saturday market. No. I had to go and build my own temporary one!

Smells sooooooo great and feel sure it will help me sleep better tonight.

...he says at 2.30am wondering when the tiredness will kick in ;)

It's the moon. I can feel it coming.

The groups which have proved the test of time

From now on I am going to include a little free PR for @naturalmedicine when I make posts like this because let's face it, these particular groups are amazing due to the way in which they are focused on helping us understand the awesome power of nature and what it can really do for us.

My_Post_1.jpg

@naturalmedicine are the only people I have ever delegated my hard eared SP to because for me there is nothing more important than helping others feel better through our understanding of nature. Their discord group is the perfect place to get the answers you seek.

@eco-alex is the founder of @ecotrain and he has also done an amazing job building up his community around a basic principle. Help the Earth.

And for that reason I feel proud to be a part of it and happy to show off his banner.

I FREAKIN' LOVE THIS. Cos you're RIGHT that the jar and muslin thing doesn't work as well, and needs CONSTANT attention to stop yukky mold. We don't use plastic containers in our kitchen, but I have the equivalent GLASS ones with plastic lids. All I need to do is create slits in the upper plastic lid and create a drainage layer.... some old plastic cover from a ring binder or something. OOOHH I'm excited by this! On it today and tomorrow and making a POST about it too!!! Life changing stuff!!

@ecoTrain

Your enthusiasm is infectious!

Love that you love ;)

I already have a plan how to make a completely plastic-free micro-green sprouter. :) You will have to wait a few days till I get it together to assemble and post. But I LOVE fenugreek and brocolli sprouts and I am INSPIRED.

nice I still just use my jars, never tried the trays but you would end up with a bigger yield. i may have to try this nothing better than sprouts and esp now in the summer when the last thing I want to do is cook. I am so excited for you about the broccoli seeds, yum you will love them. Those kale sprouts look awesome too xxx

Am looking specifically at ways to maximise production in small spaces. Thinking about feeding a hungry family in the future.

It's the radishes today ;)

they look so good, happy sprouting my friend xx

You really saved some greenbacks there Sam! When I saw the title, I wondered what you were sprouting in those tubs! :) It's good to find value in life though. Your post made me remember how much I miss England. 24 hours in Birmingham was not enough, but someday...

You'll get back here one day.

Am really happy with my new sprouter. Went back to the pound shop and bought another set of three yesterday. Now all I need is a production line and i'm in business ;)

@samstonehill how do you keep the seeds from falling through the wholes in the tray? How often do you water the sprouts? And do you keep them in a lighted area or dark?

Posted using Partiko Android

What I have tried is to create a layer of larger seeds on top of which I place the smaller seeds.

Am still working on the answer to this question in truth, as many fell through to the water collecting tray beneath. And didn't sprout when they were submerged.

I think I have the answer with my new design. Keep following and i will let you know if it works out!

Thanks again!

Great idea, I'm looking forward to see how good this works. Might give it a try to make mung bean sprouts

Mung bean sprouts are seriously tasty! Don't delay. Do it now!

Woww.
How did you make the essential oil diffuser?

Posted using Partiko Android

Two small glasses. One small candle. Four toothpicks and some white tack.

It collapsed after 4 hours because the white tack became softer with the heat.

I knew it was only temporary.

All things should be ;)

Except LOVE!

I've been wondering about sprouts for a while now. Thanks for the heads up
