Teaching English Abroad

in #education7 years ago (edited)

We all know that English is the Universal language.

When two people speak other languages and they cannot communicate, they would switch to English in an attempt to understand each other.  In some countries like Egypt, Japan, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates and lots more, teachers without the proper qualifications like teaching degrees or at least a degree in the field of teaching with a PGCE are not accepted at all.  Other countries like Czech Republic, India, Indonesia, Mexico, ect. are not that strict and will accept teachers without such qualifications.  These countries are always looking for English teachers and requires at least an ESL, TEFL, a TESOL or an IELTS qualification.

  • ESL - English as a Second Language
  • TEFL - Teaching English as a Foreign Language
  • TESOL - Teaching English to Students of Other Languages
  • IELTS - International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

These qualifications are short courses that can be attended in actual classrooms or even as online modules.  Countries with a high demand for English teachers accept them with as little as 120 hour modules or even no teaching experience at all.  They do, however, prefer the ones who took their modules in-class instead of online.  Qualifications such as these are an add-on to Degree qualifications and will make your resume stand out above the rest.

IELTS tests your English ability and your score will determine if you will be able to apply for the coursed mentioned above.

These are great for the experience of it, but single men and women are mostly preferred as they usually don't sponsor families.  Young male and female teachers often see this an opportunity to learn and to get as much experience as possible.

One should always be careful of the recruitment companies. Some do not follow through on their promises and people end up in foreign countries with delayed or even no salaries and live in horrible conditions.  Others, follow through and takes good care of their recruits.

Thanks for sharing. I also want to take the IELTS. I hope I will pass. 🤞🏻

This is so true all our young teachers are leaving our country

Gosh I wish they had this when I was young - we had to do a 4 year grade and even then it was sometimes not enough -

Yes, for teaching all other subjects you still need that 4year degree and even now, they sometimes still want more

i need to get band 7 in ielts. . but its so hard for me! i am just an average man willing to learn more about english and to master grammar because grammar is a real deal for me. i am still inadequate of idiomatic expression. ....
