COCONUT OIL AND NEUROLOGICAL RECOVERY IN AD (ALZHEIMER DISEASE)
The anecdotal reports of miraculous effects on cognitive deficits associated with neurodegenerative diseases due to the consumption of #coconut oil/ butter, are slowly leaving the field to scientific researches that are gradually confirming the beneficial effects of the coconut oil/ butter on degenerative neurological diseases. In a study published in 2013 in the Journal of #Alzheimer's Disease, the Researchers at Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John's, NL, Canada studied the effects of the coconut oil/ butter on cortical neurons treated with β-amyloid (Aß peptide) which is the typical deposit found in the brains of Alzheimer's patients. The results of this study indicated that the neurons survival was greater if treated with coconut oil/butter. This oil was also able to reduce mitochondrial alterations (shape and size) induced by Aß peptide often involved in the genesis of AD. The clinical use of coconut oil/ butter in Patients with Alzheiemer is probably related to the production of ketone bodies formed as a byproduct of metabolism of this oil. Offering an alternative energy source for the neuron, these #ketone bodies can compensate for power shortages due to mitochondrial malfunctioning. In short, a real biochemical 'miracle' is offering a great hope for these patients.
I didn't know this about coconut oil. Thanks for sharing!
That's incredible!
