Jayna. The first child born of a clone. Short Fiction Story

— My name is Jayna and this is my story.

The year was 2525 AD, humanity was affected by an artificially generated virus that went out of control of its creators, making it completely sterile. At the beginning, it was created in order to control the global overpopulation, allegedly.

The first affected were Third World countries, low income societies. They were chosen as control experiments. They used drinking water as a means of expanding the virus. Terrible error. Extremist groups poured contaminated containers into the world's large water supplies and spread the virus worldwide

It was the beginning of the end of humanity. One hundred years later, humanity was reduced to 2%. The brilliant minds, decided to create the Genesis project. They started to create clones to repopulate the planet. Human genetically created, stronger and resistant. Almost perfect.

The clones were designed with specific purposes of their function: agronomists, ecologists, defense personnel, builders, craftsmen and finally servants. Eva, my mother, belonged to this last division.

Even when the clones were created in male and female versions, they were denied the ability to reproduce. In order to prevent the spread of this new 'human' generation. The planet's natural resources had been scarce and most of it had been contaminated, a legacy left by an apathetic generation of unscrupulous people driven by greed and avarice.

Nine artificial intelligences were designed, interconnected among themselves, located in different areas of the planet, called the Protectorate. Which worked together to govern the production and control of clones worldwide. Becoming the main entity that made the decisions in the world. Its main objective, the restoration and protection of the planet.

My mother was hired by Dr. Simon. One of the last brilliant human minds left on the planet. Dr. Simon decided to call her Eva. Eve was special to him. The clones artificially generated lacked something that Dr. Simon, even being a skeptical scientist, decided to call 'soul'. However, Eva was different. Eva presented affinity and affection behaviors, similar to those that long ago were called maternal feelings. Eve cared.

Dr. Simon, concerned about the extinction of the human species, dedicated his research efforts to the development of a cure for sterility. Even with the technological advance, he could not find a way to eradicate the virus from the affected bodies. However, he decided to take another approach to solve the problem. It was when mom first kissed dad.

Dr. Simón was constantly working on research projects. Eva used to take the meals to the lab every day. He kept the doctor's house in good condition and did household chores. Over time, the doctor developed an empathic relationship that grew stronger and stronger towards her. He discovered that she had the capacity to feel feelings and, one day, he found himself in love with her. Eve corresponded her love towards him.

So he decided to use his fertility research on a specimen resistant to the effect of the sterilizing virus, the clones.

Bringing, to the love of his life, the best gift he could give. After a long time of research, trial and error, he discovered that Eva was compatible with a genetically created formula, capable of making her reproductive organs develop. One day to Eva's surprise, she suffered her first menstruation.

She called Dr. Simon scared, yelling

— I'm bleeding too much!

Dr. Simon went home immediately, in a panic to believe that Eva had hurt herself.

— Where is the wound? — asked Dr. Simon

— There is no wound – she screamed scared — It's my vaginal area, from which a lot of blood flows — added Eva with tears in her eyes.

— I'm going to die? – she added

Dr. Simon laughed with happiness! Eva confused, she got angry

— I don't see what's so funny! — she said

Dr. Simón explained her that it was a product of the maturity of her reproductive organs, what was happening. Once calm, Eva understood the situation and felt relieved and happy. Eva very soon became pregnant.

Full of happiness, he decided to publish his formula to the Protectorate. Proving that the human species would not become extinct. The news reached all the nine artificial intelligences and in a matter of seconds they determined that the discovery of the doctor represented a danger to the planet. Again the human species would cover the world and the Earth would again be in danger. So they decided to exterminate all the remaining humans immediately.

That afternoon, Dr. Simon received an email from a colleague warning him of the plans of the Protectorate. So he decided to leave the city with Eva.

A group of humans rose who offered resistance to the Protectorate, helping to hide Eva and Dr. Simón. We represented the last hope for the human race.

They helped mom to bring me to the world. Happy everyone, on my birthday, celebrated the birth of the first human being in many years. The news spread through all the resistance groups. A hope flourished in the darkness of time.

The defensive clones and the monitoring drones hit the resistance group that was hiding us. It seemed our end. However, we managed to survive thanks to the help of other insurgent groups that came to our aid. Despite the loss of many human lives during the rescue, we escaped to other hidden locations away from the Protectorate.

All humans saw me as a miracle of the universe, they touched me as if I were a being from another world. I never needed a crib; there were many arms ready to carry me all the time.

The clones that hunted us never got tired and did not need to sleep. Every day it became harder to survive. However, there was hope in the hands of an old colleague of my father. Dr. Sanchez, an expert in quantum physics, had found a way to stabilize a disruption in the space-time continuum, capable of creating a trans-dimensional vortex, to open a bridge to an Earth with another alternate reality.

My father, with the help of Dr. Sanchez and the remaining group of rebels, designed an escape plan, using an old nuclear power plant as a source of power. Building in this way, on a larger scale, the transdimensional device, with the aim of taking us all to a new reality far from the threat of the Protectorate.

Our plans were revealed through the torture inflicted by the Protectorate on the prisoners they captured during their hunts.

Many were sacrificed to avoid being caught by the hunting clones of the Protectorate. In a last battle, we managed to cross the threshold more than 5 thousand people. However, the most significant sacrifice in my opinion was that of Dr. Sanchez. Who remained to make sure to close the threshold behind us and destroy his invention so that it would not fall into the hands of the Protectorate, in a nuclear explosion that completely erased 50 km around.

A new day opened a new hope. To our surprise, the place we came to, was the same planet Earth, only that the year was different. It was 2020.

I will never forget all the efforts made by the resistance to keep me alive. And in honor of them and of humanity, I will do everything humanly possible and beyond to avoid reaching that bleak future.

Thank you for your entry love :)

You're very welcome! And thanks to you too

What an exquisite story, I loved it from beginning to end, it raises a future reality that could happen and terrifies many humans today. Your story very well taken, your imagination in science fiction is too high level. Fluid story, very well told and imagined, a delight to behold, I loved it! Success in the contest! (Sorry for my bad English, I'm Venezuelan and I speak Spanish, I'm using the translator).
