Why electronic rust proofing in cars is a scam
Why electronic rust proofing in cars is a scam
Cathodic Protection [CP] or electronic corrosion protection is very useful to prevent corrosion in boats and bridges but CP is useless in cars. For CP to work a complete electrical circuit bringing the electrons back to the cathode is required. In a bridge, the wet soil completes the circuit. In a car however a complete circuit on all the metal parts is impossible and decreases with time as dirt and corrosion accumulates. Rust occurs at the interfaces between wet and dry metal, for CP to work it would need to be between the thousands of wet and dry metal interfaces, this is not feasible or economical.
