Add email address aliases

The reason why you should add aliases to your main account is to increase privacy. By means of separating your email accounts and using aliases you increase your privacy and the safety of your data.

To optimize your privacy make sure you have at least 4 accounts:

  1. professional looking account that has your full name/identity:
johnlocksmith@... (without any jokes, representing trustworthiness)
  2. personal address for offline friends:
johnlovesyouall@... (people you have actually met in real-life)
  3. personal address for online friends:
john9483@... (which uses a random number to protect your full identity).
  4. subscription address for registering on websites / services:
pseudonymousfrog@... (which is vulnerable to hacks and exposed to the entire web).

Hotmail / Outlook

Outlook (hotmail) allows to manage 10 addresses along one main account.

To generate a new alias:

  1. Go to https://account.microsoft.com/ (login if not already)

  2. In the navigation bar click on your info (or go to https://account.microsoft.com/profile/)

  3. Below your emai laddress click on manage how you sign in.

  4. Click add email.

Yahoo

Allows to create 500 disposable email addresses, each having a unique name appendage.
This is great for subscribing for web services and news letters. Basiccally you get to know who is sending you what, and which service has been hacked in cause of unwanted spam. De-registering from a newsletter is as easy as removing the address.

  1. From your inbox click on the cog wheel (i.e. Settings)

  2. Go to email addresses --> disposable email addresses

  3. Create a pseudonymous base name (i.e. not having any identity-related information)

  4. Add alias by appending the base name with something like "-technews"

For every subscription add a new alias for the best possible privacy.

Separation of both Outlook and Yahoo increases your privacy even more. In that case keep Outlook for messaging and Yahoo for account subscriptions such as newsletters.

Make sure to have different 20-letter securely randomized passwords. For instance, an unshifted password such misk./49dm[smke'20ano is a secure password which you can remember within 3 days. A password manager such KeePass can also securely store these passwords in case you don't want to type them.
