Let's Fill The Blank Slates Up

Hello dear curious friends! After a period of silence, it's time to share some thoughts. Our topic today; to make bread from our brains. So, to fill our head and feed it. According to this description, how would our brain be bread? What does a brain eat, what do we need to fill it?

As the subject of this topic, we will set out from the notion of respectable John Locke and his famous argument "Tabula Rasa". Tabula Rasa means blank slate. John Locke is the most important empiricist philosopher of the enlightenment period.

The main concern is to develop a philosophy that totally opposes the rationalists who advocate inneisme.

So, what is this inneisme.

Inneisme is a rationalistic way of thinking that advocates that thoughts, concepts, and principles, at least some of them, in the human mind are came with born to the human mind and so we have them since our birth. In other words, according to rationalists, we come to the world as we have some basic knowledge. Our brain is not empty, we do not gain all the knowledge by living. We are born with that knowledge.

For example, Plato is a rationalist and says that we bring in knowledge from birth. He indicates that we do it with the recollection method. The source of the information Plato has mentioned in his famous ideals is in fact connected with spiritual immigration. So, Plato says that the person who is in prison in body and is falling into the world seems to be ignorant, but by remembrance he remembers that he has knowledge.

Of course, this conception of inneisme does not satisfy much of the profits and has caused a lot of criticism and opposition groups. And we can say that Locke is the most important one who against that.

Locke thinks that by pulling the arrows of criticism, the human mind does not bring in any knowledge from birth, but contrary to it, when the human is born, the mind is like a blank slate. He tells us that we are living, learning, experiencing and filling our blank slate from the moment we are born. Therefore, he indicates that the source of knowledge is our experience of the outside world, not of another world, of soul migration or recall. The mind of human which is like a blank slate will begin to fill with knowledge through sense and experience as long as the mind is alive. In other words, the source of our knowledge is our senses and our experiences from our five senses.

Accordingly, for Locke, physical entities are caused by sense to all the information we have about our world in our minds.

In this context, Locke says:

 “Nihil est in intellectu non fuerit prius in sesu.”

In English;

 “There is nothing in the mind that has not passed thought senses before”

According to this, our senses and our perceptions take some information from some physical objects - color, form, size, content, etc. - and send them to our brain. In this way, our blank slate begins to fill with the knowledge of the sensory qualities of beings. We will later begin to think and interpret them through this information conveyed through the senses to us.
