Okay so first of all Congratulations for cour School . And for clearing the phase

-"Son, just score well in 12th then your life is set."

It's a myth, I repeat it's a myth. You have to listen the same dialogue a little bit change now,

-"Son, just gets a good job then your life is Set."

And this will continue forever…

Here, are some advices :

  • Make Friends: Yes, be social and interactive. Because, no matter how much you hate your college, you will always miss it because of your friends. But don't make groups, 2–3 good friends are best. These friends will always be ready to help you anywhere.

  • Bunks : Ofcourse yes, bunk classes but make sure you don't skip an important class. And keep the 75% criteria in your mind. Remember that Mass bunk is an illusion.

  • Online Courses : Yes, you should have some sort of certification. Now, why is this important?. Let me clear this we have around 40 theory subjects and around 20 practical subjects in our while engineering. So St any cost we have to learn this subjects to pass the exams, we don't have another choice. BUT, doing an online certification depicts that you have interest in learning, you are not forced. And remember True Engineering is done by choice not by force. Some good website are Coursera, edx, udacity, udemy etc.

  • Good Rapport: This is important, 50% of marks are in the hand of your professor. So just make a good image. Never argue, or misbehave with teachers. No matter it's your fault or not.

  • CGPA Matters: CGPA doesn't matter, don't judge with marks, knowledge matters than CGPA. It's a myth. Yes, they don't make any sense but are very important, many companies have criteria like about 7.0 or 7.5+ then you will be helpless. Therefore study hard and get the practical knowledge. This meme is a trap.

  • Communicate: Yes build up your communication skills, participate in various events. Give a presentation, this will really help you. If you are bad, sometimes your friends will laugh but don't give up. Try harder.

  • Say No to Alcohol/Drugs: There will be many stupid guys who will teach you a lesson of How to be Cool?. But don't indulge in these activities. Nothing is cool in smoking, drinking and drugs.

  • Coding: If you are in CSE/IT then it is must, you don't have another option. But I'll say every student of any branch should have basic knowledge of any one programming language say C/C++/Python /Matlab.

  • Decide your Goal: In 12th many students has one goal to do engineering from a good college. But after taking admission you should start thinking about your career. As an Engineer you have many choices, mainly they are classified as:

  1. GATE - mostly civil, mechanical, ec students choose this.
  2. CAT - people having interest in management
  3. Placement - everyone wants this to be safer side.
  4. GRE- students who want to study more and do MS prefer this.
  5. Bank/Civil services, and many more.
  6. And the best is to be an Entrepreneur.
  • Join a Club: Yes, being busy is very good, you should join a club of your Interest and hobby, say it's a photography club, music club, literature club. Anything it may be an NGO where you do social work.

  • Projects: Do take your projects damn seriously. Especially minor project, I'm saying minor project because it's the only thing with you which you can show to the companies which will arrive in 6th/7th Sem. If you make in a team, divide the work. Being in a group and doing nothing will make you dumb. This is only chance to show your creativity, practical knowledge and hard work. Many students get placed just on the basis of their projects.

  • Relationship: Mechanical students can skip this point. Nothing wrong with being in a Relationship. But always remember career over a relationship. Making girlfriend/boyfriend is cool, but remember your career and future at every point. You should not waste your time, and I suggest if you are good at managing your studies then only be in a relationship. (Trust me its too hard and then later on it sucks.)

  • Relations with seniors:
Your seniors are more experienced than you. They can guide you at any point during your Engineering. Always be in touch with them, ask them and ping them about any query or doubt. They will help you in many ways :

  1. Events and co-curricular activities happening in college.
  2. Career guidance.
  3. Mistakes they have done, that you should not repeat
  4. Placement scenario, tips about resume, how to prepare and lots more
  5. Project related queries.
  6. Books and notes to refer

Regards

A final year Student. :)

Have a great Engineering life. ;-)
