Caroní River: It is the second most important river in Venezuela, being the second with the highest flow and some of the longest, reaching 952 km from Tepuy Kukenán, where it was born with the name of Kukenán river, until its confluence with the Orinoco river, to whose basin it belongs. The name of Caroní begins to be used from the confluence of the river Kukenán and the river Yuruaní.

Orinoco River: It is one of the most important rivers in South America that runs mostly by Venezuela. It is the fourth longest South American river, with an average flow of about 33,000 m³ / s, it is the third largest river in the world, after Amazon and Congo. The Orinoco basin has an area of almost 989,000 km², of which 643 480 km², that is, 65%, remain in Venezuelan territory and the remaining 35% in Colombian territory. The name of the river comes from the Otomoco Orinucu.

According to Alejo Carpentier, «the Orinoco is a materialization of time in the three Augustinian categories, past time (the time of memory), present time (time of intuition) and future time (time of waiting)» .

Confluence between both Rivers:

The Phenomenon takes place in Ciudad Guayana, Bolívar State, specifically between Puerto Ordaz and San Félix. It should be noted that the reason why both rivers do not join is because of the chemical composition of each river, which makes it possible to differentiate between the color of the waters when they come together and the magnificent show.

The Orinoco is born in the Cerro Delgado Chalbaud of the Amazonas state and throughout its journey accumulates sediments from other rivers that are in its channel and that is the origin of its yellowish coloration; On the other hand, El Caroní born in the Kukenán Tepuy is dark in color because it contains high concentrations of humic and fulvic acids. "They are organic acids produced by the decomposition of the litter that comes from everything that is the Guayana Shield and the Amazon."

The differences between both rivers can be reflected in certain aspects such as acidity (pH) and conductivity levels (difference between total suspended solids), this gives the Orinoco the characteristic of being denser and of course having a higher temperature. It could be said that the difference between the temperatures of both rivers is only 2 °C.

Legend:

They have a legend of love ... that says that the Orinoco (man) and Caroní (woman), they saw love in front. They were never guilty of being born in different places, but their heart always beat with emotion, when the wind caressed their souls. The gods did not like that love very much, but they defied all obstacles and agreed to meet at a distance from the mountain and go together to the blue sea, that was their dream and that was how it was fulfilled.
