Amazonias Burning
Hello community, today I come to tell you about the Amazon, I want to give you some information about this incredible vegetation that extends throughout South America.
The Amazon basin, which covers 7.4 million square kilometers, covers almost 40% of Latin America and covers nine countries: Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guyana, Guyana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela. Around 60% is in Brazil.
The Amazon rainforest, of which 2.1 million square kilometers are protected areas, is home to a sanctuary of biodiversity unique in the world.
A quarter of the Earth's species are found there, that is, 30,000 types of plants, 2,500 species of fish, 1,500 birds, 500 mammals, 550 reptiles and 2.5 million insects, according to the Treaty Organization of Amazon Cooperation (ACTO).
In the last 20 years, 2,200 new species of plants and vertebrates have been discovered, a fact that makes the territory's wealth even clearer. two 'Lung of the Earth' The Amazon contains one third of the world's primary forests and, through the Amazon River and its tributaries, provides 20% of the Earth's non-frozen fresh water. The Amazon is the largest river in the world and, according to research conducted in 2007, it is also the longest, with an extension of 6,900 kilometers.
The forest acts as a carbon sink, because it absorbs more CO2 than it emits and releases oxygen, in addition to storing 90,000 to 140,000 million tons of CO2, which helps regulate global warming, according to the World Wildlife Fund ( WWF). This last aspect is changing, because due to deforestation, the CO2 absorption capacity is being reduced. 3 420 tribes The Amazon has been inhabited for at least 11,000 years and today has 34 million people, of which two thirds live in cities.
The number of Indian population in the Amazon amounts to almost three million people, distributed in 420 different tribes. Of the total of tribes, 60 live in total isolation, the ACTO has pointed out, setting the number of languages spoken by the Indians in 86, and in 650 the number of dialects.
The largest Amazonian tribe is the Tikuna, which has about 40,000 spread throughout Brazil, Peru and Colombia, according to the Survival International organization, which has also indicated the name of the Brazilian Indian chief of the Kayapo tribe, Raoni Metuktire, who after traveling three Decades around the world calling for the preservation of the forest and its indigenous population, it has been recognized as the main activists in the campaign against the deforestation of the territory.
As you know about the crisis, we need more than ever the help of everyone. With my heart I ask who can give a hand. For the future of the endangered species and ours. A greeting.
