LEARNING MUSICAL THEORY ORIGIN OF MUSIC NOTES 1/4
The origin of the musical notes takes us to the beginning of the eleventh century, when the Benedictine monk named Guido D'Arezzo used a hymn that he used to sing on the eve of the celebration of San Juan Bautista. In this hymn, he took the first letters of each paragraph to create the musical notes.
This hymn had a singularity, each paragraph was going up in intonation, since that way it had to be performed, for which it was the monk's intentions.

The hymn is the following :
The translation of anthem:
"So that your servants may resound with full echo the wonder of your works, clean the impure lips of Saint John" .
As we mentioned earlier, D'Arezzo chose the first letters of each line:
Ut, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, La, Si (the latter preferred to choose the initials of San Juan Bautista); This system is called "Solmization", the previous system named the notes according to the first letters of the alphabet: : A, B, C, D, E, F, G (LA, SI, UT "DO", RE, MI, FA, SOL).
It is not until the seventeenth century where "Ut" is replaced by the "DO", much easier to sing by ending in a vowel.
The system of naming the notes with the letters of the alphabet is still implemented in the USA and is known as:
English or American encryption
The English cipher or American cipher is a system of abbreviation of the name of the notes in which they are represented by letters.
This is the relationship between the different nomenclatures used for the name of the notes:
Spanish | do re mi fa sol la si |
English | C, D, E, F, G, A, B |
