Reddit will enable Bitcoin payments again and plans to add Ethereum and Litecoin
Reddit is the largest web community in which cryptocurrency enthusiasts meet and discuss technology. The Bitcoin subreddit community has 816 thousand subscribers, and the subrecipit of cryptocurrencies has more than 663 thousand subscribers.
Recently, the platform disabled Bitcoin as a payment method for Reddit Gold, after having enabled it in February 2013.
Reddit had deactivated Bitcoin as a payment method without prior notice, leaving customers the option to pay with PayPal and credit cards. However, after the information reached the first page of Bitcoin Subreddit, a Reddit administrator responded to the decision to eliminate the currency, stating that they had problems with the Coinbase payment platform, which led to the complete disablement of the currency. the platform.
"Yes, that is correct. The next change of Coinbase, combined with some errors in the Bitcoin payment option that were affecting purchases for certain users, led us to eliminate Bitcoin as a payment option, "said the administrator.
Coinbase had made changes to Coinbase Commerce that allowed merchants to accept Bitcoin payment. but the change required the merchants to perform a meaningful update. Reddit decided not to perform the update, disabling Bitcoin as payment method.
In an interview with Cheddar, Christopher Slowe, Reddit's CTO, revealed that they are working to re-enable Bitcoin payments on their platform. The CTO confirmed that currently they did not have enough time to work on the Coinbase update, because they are focused on redesigning the Reddit platform.
When asked if they intended to accept other cryptocurrencies in addition to Bitcoin, Slowe said:
"We have been looking for other cryptocurrencies, we are evaluating Ethereum and Litecoin that Coinbase also provides."
On a Cheddar twitter, the media confirmed the information:
"Reddit, which houses communities for every cryptocurrency in the world, hopes to bring cryptographic payments back to the platform, this time with Ethereum and Litecoin in addition to Bitcoin, according to CTO KeyserSosa."
Bitcoin is ready to return to the platform, and this time users will have more payment options, such as Ethereum and Litecoin, to buy Reddit Gold. Slowe has not revealed an exact date on when Bitcoin will return to the platform, but said it is happening.
