Doppelgänger, our evil twins
Dolppelganger is a term used to refer to a person identical to the other, a twin, an exact personification and very similar to another. This word comes from Germany where "doppel" means double and "gänger" means andante. In one of my many nights watching anime I get with this term and a great uncertainty in the context of the plot that the anime mentioned, and is that the Doppelgänger are linked to death and demonic facts.
Usually a Doppelgänger is considered as a symbol of bad luck, a premonition of a disease, a tragedy, or a near death. In fact, in the anime that I mentioned to them, they used in their argument some of the theories that are linked to this term: "The one who sees his double is that he is going to die". This theory emphasizes that any person who encounters his "evil twin" will find his or her death sooner, while if a relative, acquaintance or friend finds a Doppelgänger from another person, it is a great symbol of evil omen or tragedy to come. In another theory, it is emphasized that a Doppelgänger has no soul, therefore has no shadow or reflection.
There are many famous cases of direct link with this "Phenomenon" such is the case;
Abraham Lincoln shortly after being president says he saw some illusions where he saw himself, but in a totally different way, a little pale, distorted, emaciated only long after being president of elect. While it was true that he was very superstitious, I consider this an act of bad luck. President Sixteenth Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth without much time having begun second term in office.
Queen Elizabeth I of England reports that she lived an experience very similar to the previous one. In 1603 she found herself lying on her bed, in a spectral, pale, haggard stance that was the prelude to her death only after a few days of the strange event.
Percy Bysshe Shelley, recognized as one of the most important poets of the English language, visualized his Doppelgänger in Italy. This time a little different from the previous ones and that the double pointed towards the Mediterranean. Very shortly thereafter, and shortly before his 30th birthday in 1822, Shelley died in an accident, drowned in the Mediterranean.
They are facts that leave much to talk about, what to research and read. What is certain is that this term always has a touch of rejection and fear of people.
Do you want to meet your Doppelgänger?
Wow that's interesting history. I can see why the would associate death or bad luck to that term. Thanks for sharing.
I also enjoyed reading what you wrote! When has meeting your Doppelgänger ever been good?
