Season 8A Finale DEATH PREDICTIONS! | A Walking Dead Blog

Season 8 of The Walking Dead has been full of glorious highs and brutal lows. As we near the mid-season finale, true fans of the show know what could be about to happen. The showrunners even said there would be a moment ‘everyone would be talking about’ after the episode airs.

A finale doesn’t always mean a death. But given the wartime environment the characters are currently living under, with strongholds and alliances crumbling, it seems all but certain at least one major character will meet their demise. The question is – who?

01 - Nobody
Or at least, no major characters. The show has slowly and quietly built up the population enough that a few minor characters could meet their end at once. We’ve already seen it happen, but how likely is it the showrunners would cap off such a chaotic first-half of the season without having someone we’re attached to check out? In our assessment, not likely at all.

Chance of Death: Low

02 - Negan
Rick’s stated over and over that he’s going to kill Negan, and there are a few other people who would like to put him in the ground as well. The sneak peak showed Negan rolling up to Alexandria’s gates, but could that be a bluff? After all, most of his army is either dead, defecting, or scattered. Negan may meet his end in the show one day, but we don’t think we’ll see the last of him next week.

Chance of Death: Low

03 - Dwight
Speaking of defectors, Dwight has run the full range of alignments during his course on the show. He started out as a seemingly nice guy, mistaking Daryl for a member of The Saviors. He then joined back up with The Saviors and imprisoned Daryl, only to change sides once more when the love of his life (his main reason for pledging his allegiance to Negan) was gone. Will his treason get sniffed out? Even if it doesn’t, Dwight made major enemies in Daryl and Tara. Just because he’s an asset to their current goal doesn’t mean they won’t gun him down if they get the chance.

Chance of Death: Moderate

04 - Eugene
We questioned Eugene’s loyalty in one of our previous blogs, and it seems he’s still on the fence. His biggest priority is still himself, but he’s shown to be conflicted about his place in the world and even passed on an opportunity to rat out Dwight. Still, he’s trapped in a compound full of walkers and an imploding regime. There’s also the possibility that his old friends may leap at the chance to give him the most serious type of payback for his betrayal.

Chance of Death: Moderate

05 - Morgan
“I don’t die.” Well, that’s pretty much all the evidence we need to say Morgan is at high risk in this finale. He’s cheated death before, but will his luck run out? His conflicted mental state could cloud his judgment, leaving him vulnerable. Morgan was also revealed to be the crossover character heading to Fear the Walking Dead. While this doesn’t automatically mean he’s a goner, it seems the showrunners have been setting up for his departure for a long time now.

Chance of Death: High

06 - Gabriel
After a brilliant confessional-style scene with Negan, Gabriel ended up in the grip of a mysterious illness. Trapped in a bed with no meds around and the walker threat growing ever closer, it seems Gabriel may be running out of time. It would be sad to see him go, especially after he’s had such a great character change. However, it would take a miracle for him to escape this predicament. Hm...maybe the father knows someone who could make that happen.
