The Walking Dead Season 8 Trailer - Review and Speculation

TWD Season 8.jpg

If the source material is any indication, Season 8 of The Walking Dead should be the most action-packed and thrilling season yet.

The official trailer just confirmed these predictions, and in true Walking Dead fashion, left us with a lot of exciting things to discuss. WARNING: Possible TV and comic spoilers ahead!

The trailer opens up with Negan dropping a totally Negan-esque line about wearing your “shitting pants” because you will be shitting your pants soon enough. It’s worth mentioning that Father Gabriel is the one Negan is talking to. Does this mean he was kidnapped? Or did Negan infiltrate an area where Father Gabriel and the others were staying?

We then see Alexandria, Hilltop, and The Kingdom united just like they were at the end of Season 7. The action is plentiful, with Rick and the others rallying their troops, driving in armored convoys, and blasting away at anything or anyone who gets in their way.

Morgan says: “I don’t die.” Now, this could be a snippet of a longer line that would make sense in context. The showrunners love to keep us guessing, but we can’t help but think this means bad news for Morgan’s character. At one point, it looks like he and Jesus are coming to blows. Will Morgan’s rage overtake his ability to reason?

Though there are plenty of scenes that look like they were taken straight out of an action movie, we also get gripping dialogue reminding us of just how far the characters have come. For example, Maggie utters the line: “I’ve been fighting since the farm. Can’t stop now.”

There are hordes of walkers, Daryl making things explode, and then…there is the ending.

We see a cane leaning up against the wall, then a picture of Rick laying in a white bed near some flowers. Does this mean the entire thing was a dream, and that Rick was in a coma the entire time?!

Not likely. Given that Rick is sporting a little more gray at this point, we’d bet this scene actually indicates some sort of time skip. The blooming flowers may be symbolic of the new world our heroes can build if they overcome their adversaries.
