An entrepreneur is someone who undertakes (or commits) to organise, manage and assume the risks of a business

As an entrepreneur one must have a drive for innovating and implementing new ideas as that is the core of what being an entrepreneur is about.

Firstly, researching skills are a valuable tool and one that is definitely required in today’s society, by researching all the facts and figures, we are better equipped to fully understand the issue we are trying to solve and process an idea that is able to fill a void or improve on an existing product.

Research leads to knowledge and knowledge is what separates an entrepreneur from a normal person as they can spot niches in the market for a particular idea. We should always be researching about a broad range of topics so that we can build a foundation of knowledge in which we can build upon when required. Having access to the internet is having unlimited knowledge at our fingertips and while it should not be our only source of information it certainly makes things a lot easier when researching a particular topic.

Emotional intelligence (EQ) affects how we manage behaviour, navigate social complexities, and make personal decisions that achieve positive results and is made up from 4 core skills that pair up under two primary competencies, personal competence (self awareness, self management) and social competence (social awareness and relationship management). Personal competence focuses on you as an individual and how you are aware of your emotions as well as managing your behaviour and tendencies while social competence is your ability to understand and read other people’s emotions and behaviour in order to create strong relationships. It is crucial for any entrepreneur to have these skills as relationships are an important part of the entrepreneurial journey.

Lastly, risk taking is a concept that is the backbone of entrepreneurship and is needed to take the plunge and follow through with your ideas. Risk taking need not be suicidal, but actually calculated risks and this goes hand in hand with researching skills as to be able to take a calculated risk you need to know your facts. When taking a risk one must have researched that field to reduce the possibility of failure and hopefully create a situation where the risk pays off. Someone who is flexible and able to take failure and learn from it is very useful

An entrepreneurial journey is not just a one way street but a motorway with many different turns and routes, also something that is important to keep in mind is there will be both highs and lows and they are all part of the experience.
