Committing to learning EOS
EOS felt like a special project and now that the ICO is over, we just have yet another coin and thats it... or is it?
This article is about why I'm committing publicly (this time) to do a deeper dive into the world of EOS...
After the launch (which was a pretty cool event filled with drama and ups and downs), there was a security hole that was fixed which required the chain to freeze production, then a bp action to freeze a set of five (5) accounts, then a set of twenty-one (21) accounts... during this time there was also lots of FUD about EOS from well known crypto names.
- Note - I don't know why some of the Ethereum people think that if EOS is successful, that it would somehow diminish Ethereum, and vice-versa... I actually think the opposite, that IF EOS is shown to be useful, then value of Ethereum will also go up and vice-versa.
Anyways, at some point I thinking about why EOS is named EOS (the greek word for "Dawn"). What is it the dawn of?
So the block producer action to freeze the accounts, seems from the tweets it generated like it was a radical action... and anybody used to the wild-west crypto world and even to me it seems radical... on the other hand, that is a pretty cool feature (specially if it was your account that was taken advantage of).
The transparency of the 21 (continuously) voted in block producers, is refreshing.
Then I saw this telegram post in "EOSIO Gov" (https://web.telegram.org/#/im?p=@EOSGov) from Dan Larimer on June 10th (or 11th), at 11:41:20 saying:
I cannot sign this. As I believe it does constitute violence
to part of Article 1 (no initiation of violence) of the proposed "EOS Mainnet" constitution (https://github.com/EOS-Mainnet/governance/blob/master/eosio.system/eosio.system-clause-constitution-rc.md):
Members shall not initiate violence or the threat of violence against another Member. Lawful prosecution of crimes with the goal of preserving life, liberty and property does not constitute initiation of violence.
Then some interesting back and forth, including from EOS-Detroit (Lovejoy) and Cryptolions.
Back to the question of "what is it the dawn of?" I don't know what it is, but you can sense there is something. I don't know if we'll ever find out, but it seems that we should strive to find or reach for whatever it is, and hope (and work for) that when (/if) the there is dawn and a new day that it is bright and better.!
