EOS Magazine Vol.1: Our 2018
It is common not to realize great events while they’re happening, these events that came to shape history often go unnoticed by those who live them, because as a rule we need time and history to tell us how great said moment was. It is not our fault. On one hand, it’s difficult to objectively judge something while it's happening, something of which we won’t be able to discern consequences without time marking our memory. After all, we are empirical beings, we need results, on the other hand, we live in an anxious times, where our attention is on what has not happened (future) preventing us from enjoying the road we’re traversing as of now.
Therefore, our team has made a conscious effort to look back on the wonderful year that EOS has had, things that the project has achieved in a short time and how this will shape what we should expect in 2019, and beyond that.
To take a much more objective look, we have also included the results of a survey we were working on with the members our community and EOS community in general, with the intention of getting to know the end user of EOS and answering questions such as: Who uses EOS? What’s the goal of people approaching the EOS community? Is there a real impact of EOS on people's lives?. We believe that this helps us have the necessary data to move forward in a more humane way, and if you think about it, none of these things would work if human beings were not getting something positive of our project.
We proudly present the first volume of our magazine.
EOS Venezuela Team
The year 2018 has come with big changes in the crypto landscape. One of the most significant, not only for us as part of the community, but for the blockchain in general was the launch of EOS.io as a new ecosystem. This was the catalytic event for the birth of EOS Venezuela, an initiative that grows aiming to create a real impact in our region.
What are EOS Venezuela goals?
Since its birth, this project has strived to enforce the use of available Blockchain technology on an every day level for Venezuela and Latin America as a whole. It relies on growth through education, giving the community tools to own their finances with knowledge of the field. One of our goals is to create a basic model for others to follow for the growth of personal projects, professional ventures, and above all, social initiatives tailored to the modern Latin American market.
We have experienced exponential growth during 2018, achieving milestones that encourage us to continue insisting on the construction of a more decentralized country. Today we can say that EOS Venezuela has become more than a project, we are the representatives of a culture of hard -and smart- work and collaboration, which always seeks the overall development of everyone involved to achieve its global objectives.
Our main achievements this year
We are the largest Spanish-speaking community of EOS
With almost 500 active members in our Telegram chat, we are fast-growing community that’s becoming more involved with the EOS project every day. Beyond the group’s daily interactions, we offer knowledge, exploring new opportunities that EOS and its DApp's offer and analyzing how each of these solutions can help improve living situations in our country and region.
We offer opportunities to jump into the EOS ecosystem.
At EOS Venezuela we work towards the future, guiding all those interested in creating an EOS account with a simple and quick questionnaire. Shorty they’re within the ecosystem, and have the necessary information to operate it comfortably and safely. We provide EOS accounts through EOS Lynx (although you can use others, if you prefer), while simultaneously providing technical assistance to start using the platform.
Launch of CryptoPeso
The CryptoPeso project was born as a 100% Venezuelan alternative to create a decentralized market, free of regulations from our government and modern in its application. Our idea is to make Venezuela a pioneer country when it come to using crypto currencies for all types of transactions, to the detriment of currencies issued by Central Banks. The PSO, having the characteristics of EOS, has virtually instantaneous transactions, without commissions.
Birth of RemesasGO
The Venezuelan community abroad has grown year after year and we have thought about how we can help them, the best way to do this is to facilitate a common transaction at present: sending remittances (remesas) to their families in Venezuela. This process is complicated for many Venezuelans, with an unnecessary amount of obstacles when sending money to their relatives. That's why we think that sending tokenized remittances is the future and we are working to implement it
FamilyEOS Project
To support the Venezuelan community, all what we need is a small step in the right direction. That's why we've taken the lead of FamilyEOS along with GiveCrypto. The idea is to help 100 Venezuelan families by giving $1 a day for 3 months. With this project/experiment we want to know the effect and usefulness that the use of crypto coins can have to improve the quality of life of people who are in crisis situations.
We participate with TELOS Network
TELOS Network is sister chain to EOS, it proposes significant changes to the current structure of many projects in the platform, promising a different approach to the issue of governance in blockchain. EOS Venezuela participates in this project as a Block producer candidate, aiming to enrich the EOS.io ecosystem even more.
The most anticipated launch of the year
EOS reaches record transactions per second
After a stress-test organized by the community, EOS reached the incredible figure of almost 10,000 TPS (Transactions per Second). Until now, no other Blockchain is capable of handling so many transactions at the same time without collapsing, as the Blocktivity. site shows.EOS DApp's with the most active users
Para la mitad de septiembre, By mid-September, Kevin Rooke(Cryptomoney Researcher) said that EOS DApp's would have surpassed Ethereum in active daily users and transaction volume, having 11,428 users vs. 10,562 active users per day, respectively. He further stated that while Ethereum handled a volume of 26M USD in 7 days, EOS had moved 48M USD in the same period. The new EOS Private Token that promises to revolutionize money
At the end of November, over the Telegram Chat of EOS, Dan Larimer began a casual conversation with the following sentence: "What if I tell you that I have resolved privacy and infinite scalability?"
From there, a debate was unleashed that lasted until today, in which the community -together with Dan Larimer- bounced ideas of what would be a token destined to work simply as currency, that’s not programmable and with a simple code (as Dan Larimer affirms). We can only wait for its implementation in 2019!
At the end of November 2018, due to the need to understand our community, in order to provide the best work for it, we made a study of users in the EOS.io ecosystem. More than 2500 people were surveyed, both from Venezuela and an international audience, which gave a broad enough perspective to understand the practical vision of our blockchain and the future of it.
The questionnaire covers a series of questions that aim to define the type of user we have today in the blockchain, and how is their behavior in the crypto world. It continues to clarify the level of introduction of users to the technology, and their perspectives and expectations in the EOS blockchain, as well as discovering which is the value proposition with the greatest impact on these users, or where the value for them comes from. Then, as Block Producers we can focus on covering the gaps in knowledge and build proposals around what the community is most interested in. This study is to be able to listen directly to the user, who places value on projects like ours. If we are looking for mass adoption we have to see what the masses want!
It's interesting to see how the views of English-speaking and Spanish-speaking audiences are different. We could see how the Venezuelan community is in a different stage of access to technology and technical knowledge, however the adoption has been larger on the general public. There is no single user profile of the EOS blockchain, and what we have found in this study is that there are different needs and expectations, which means that the work agenda must be as diverse as your community requires. Technical development has been a big boost in our ecosystem, and **it is therefore imperative that we focus on the practical, useful and social aspects of crypto and blockchain technologies.
**
Although EOS.io is a platform to make dApps, that is, the kingdom of programmers, according to our survey these represent only 30% of users. About 60% of the community are crypto users that respond to a profile that more than technical knowledge, has market knowledge and subsequently knows about crypto currencies, this in turn creates business interest in those users, as 53% of total users think of EOS as a business opportunity or business endeavour.
We have identified a particular difference between the Spanish-speaking community where the greatest attraction to EOS is the economic opportunity represented by its token in the market, catalogued as a "good investment" by 48% of our audience. However, for the international community the main economic attraction is focused on its technology, the expectation of a new generation of blockchain, and where speculative interest in the token drops to only 21% for those surveyed. There is a user base and developers of around 12% -who are Dan Larimer's fan base-, who are in the ecosystem today because of the history of Larimer and his blockchain projects.
As for community participation in the processes of the system Delegated Proof Of Stake, orvote for Block Producers, we see that only 50% have cast the their 30 votes. Overwhelmingly, 30% hardly vote between 1 to 10 Block Producers. That creates interest on why participation is so low, and we find that the technical barrier or ignorance in the process of how to vote are the main factors, being as high -in the Spanish-speaking community- as 51% of users unaware of the balloting process in EOS.
Once the user is instructed on the possibilities and projects to implement in EOS there is an indisputable intention to participate and expand the skills they have on blockchain. Although there is currently a high disregard or lack of knowledge of documents such as the Constitution, ECAF and proposals such as Universal Resource Inheritance (URI) and Resources Exchange (REX), 84% of the community would vote for the implementation of REX and 72% for the implementation of URI. It is also interesting that once you understand the power of participation on issues such as the Constitution, it is more than 82% who think they would agree to vote for changes or updates to it.
