A (really) quick guide to the EOS Knights Village
We’ve got a new edition of the Beginner’s Guide Series - this time we’re covering the latest update of EOS Knights that released the village construction.
After a few weeks of waiting and grinding for pickaxes we’re finally here: EOS Knights village construction has started and you can finally build your own village and get some nice boosts.
This post is supposed to give you some quick orientation when you first start off with the village construction.
tl;dr - do I have to play this?
The village is pretty much unrelated to the general game mechanics (pretty much like the dungeons), but it can give your knights some Attack boosts and you can farm some extra Magic Water from it, so it’s worth at least making the first few steps.
The village
Head over to the rightmost icon “Village” to view your field. There’s essentially four types of actions you can perform there:
- Dig (remove obstacles)
- Build
- Merge
- Expand
You can view the grid of your village, which at first will show a few free squares and some with rocks or weeds. The upper limit shows kind of a fog of war which you’ll be able to move once you’ve constructed some buildings. But let’s do this step-by-step.
Digging
This is done to remove obstacles from the field before you can place buildings on them. You’ll probably have enough space on the field to place your first buildings, so digging may actually become more relevant the fuller your field becomes with smaller buildings over time. In any case, you need pickaxes to dig. Pickaxes are actually like usual axes and can be crafted from material. There are the following types:
- Hard Pickaxe (1x Steel, 1x Sapphire)
- Sparkling Pickaxe (1x Magnesium, 1x Cat’s Eye, 1x Diamond)
- Flaming Pickaxe (1x Mithryl, 1x King Pirate’s Heart, 1x Frog Poison)
Just like with other weapons, they vary in their stats of which Attack is what you’re looking for.
When digging, tap on an obstacle and select the pickaxe(s) that you want to use. The total Attack needs to exceed the Hp of the obstacle to get it removed. The pickaxes disappear after one-time usage. Therefore, it’s typically better to just use unlevelled pickaxes than synthesizing and upgrading them.
Once you’ve successfully removed an obstacle, you get a Magic Water reward and the square is clear for construction.
Building
Now it gets more interesting. Tap on “Build” and you’ll be able to see what you can construct. There’s 6 different types of buildings:
- Magicwater Altar - gives you extra Magic Water
- Knight’s House - boosts the Attack of your Knight
- Archer’s House - boosts the Attack of your Archer
- Mage’s House - boosts the Attack of your Mage
- Garden - no extra boosts
- Tile - no extra boosts
Every building you construct will use a specific type of material and increases your Village Score by a certain number, so even if they don’t give you a boost it still pays off to build them.
You can only directly construct buildings up to level 4, any higher levels will have to be created through merging.
For any type of building that provides a boost, only the single building with the highest level will give you this boost (if multiple have the same level, one will be chosen randomly). This one building is marked with the respective icon on the map. The boosts are fixed numbers, so they have a bigger impact when your knights are rather weak. As an example: A level 4 Archer’s House increases your Archer’s Attack by 140, which is quite significant if the total Attack is only 1500.
This means that it pays off to merge as many lower-level buildings into higher-level buildings.
Merging
If you have at least three buildings of the same type and level you can merge these three into one of the next higher level of that type.
Once you have three such buildings, either tap on one of them and select “Merge” from there, of tap “Merge” on the village screen and choose the one you want to merge.
Merging is what effectively let’s you progress through the village construction. You free up space and increase the overall level of your buildings, with the goal of reaching one building of level 10 per type. If you try to achieve that by just building level 1 buildings, that will require you to build and merge 3^9 = 19683 level 1 buildings! Be sure you have enough space for that!
Expand
Once you’ve constructed a few buildings, you can tap the button on the top of the field (where the fog is) in order to free up two additional rows of village field. The requirements (in terms of Village Score) to expand your field rise pretty quickly, so we’ll have to see how quickly the field actually fills up with smaller buildings that are used to merge up.
Conclusion
The Village is a funny new feature that can boost your knights and Magic Water production while at the same time consuming a lot of leftover material. It’s easy to make early progress, but there’s a lot to discover over time, which will hopefully motivate a lot of people to stick around in their villages and consume material in order to achieve higher boosts. A good piece of work by the Biscuit team - we’re curious to see where this will bring us in the long-run!
