In what was a surprise for me and my online friends, Infinity Ward and Activision released an Alpha version of one of the upcoming Call of Duty title's game mode for the weekend. It was a 2v2 game mode which was deployed with 5 maps over the weekend. Unfortunately, it was a Playstation 4 exclusive so not all players in the community were able to give it a try. They even released it a day before its original target date of Friday to get more players to try it out.

After the massive download, we were able to step in and give it a good try to really compare it to our previous experiences. I think that considering that it was an Alpha, it was pretty solid to demonstrate some of the key aspects we are looking towards with the new game. The 2v2 mode featured small maps and random loadouts which I think was a good idea as it forced the players to try out different weapons and gear instead of finding one that was powerful and using it through the weekend. They also added a different version of the mode over the weekend as you needed to scavenge your gear at the start of each round instead of having a predetermined loadout.

It was also a different experience to play without a radar in Call of Duty as it has been a standard in the more popular game modes to date (Hardcore playlists always had this feature). Whether it was that factor or the seemingly lower time to kill metric, it surely felt like a more realistic experience. If you also add the fact that there were no weird weapons or abilities, I would say that it is truly "boots on the ground" as they have been mentioning for some time now.

I had my mixed feelings about the gameplay but I think it was just the repetition of the same game mode and the inability to play larger maps with more friends which is really what calls my attention these days when playing online. However, the beta version which should expand the testing experience is only a couple of weeks away so a great opportunity to really give it a try is here soon enough. Until then, I am somewhat optimistic about the game!

Thanks!

Is this Alpha availble for Public? Can I get it for my PS4?

It was only for that one weekend but the beta is coming next weekend!

Will keep my eyes focused then.
