Nice post @afterglow. I also would like to add that if all systems are up and running in the company is tantamount to say that the IT pro(Computer Tech/Network admin/General IT Practitioner/Lab Technician/and the like) in there is very productive, it doesn't even matter if the IT professional seems to be just sitting in front of the computer or physical moving. As long as all systems are up and running that IT guy is really doing an awesome job, whether he figured out to automate some task or he just did it manually. He deserves all that decent salary.
