The study of yoga and its relation to the increase of energy.

According to a 2017 study from University of Waterloo, Canada, practicing a short session of Hatha yoga and awareness meditation can significantly improve brain function and energy.

Specifically, the study found that practicing Hatha yoga for 25 minutes or daily awareness meditation could improve executive functioning of the brain.

It is also useful for the cognitive abilities associated with attaining goals, and the ability to control spontaneous emotional responses rooted in habit.

A total of 31 participants were divided into three groups at random, completing 25 minutes of Hatha yoga sessions, 25 minutes of awareness meditation, and 25 minutes of reading.

As a result, participants who performed Hatha yoga and awareness meditation experienced significantly improved executive function compared to those who only read.

The study also found that Hatha yoga and awareness meditation are equally effective in increasing energy. However, Hatha yoga works more effectively than conscious meditation.

According to Kimberly Luu, author of the study as reported on the Science Daily page, there are several theories why physical activity such as yoga can increase energy.

Starting from the release of endorphins, increased blood flow to the brain, and decreased ruminative thoughts. Ruminative thought is the activity of consciously expelling a bad event to be ingested, studied, and stored again in memory.

However, these theories are merely assumptions that need to be examined further.
