Onion land at the Hili land port 12 Taka

At the price of Tk 100 per kg at the Hili land port, the onion is now sold at Tk 12-15 a kg. Traders said that on the last few days the onion is sold at Tk 20-24 per kg but now it is selling between Tk 8 and 10 per kg, which is currently selling at Tk 12-15 a kg.

On the occasion of Ramadan, traders import huge quantity of onions daily from India by the port. Onion prices have increased due to increased import of onions, said the traders of the port said. They say that due to adequate supply, the price of onion in the month of Ramadan will remain stable.

On the other hand, onion market importers demanded to keep prices of essential commodities stable with onion in the open market.

Hili land ports have been seen, rickshaw-laden onion-laden trucks entering the country from India to the zero point of the port. Port related officials said, the import of various daily commodities including onion, garlic, ginger, dried chilli and cumin increased with the Hili land port on the occasion of Ramadan. India is growing every day because of the demand for onion import from India.

Last week, on an average, 25 to 30 trucks of onion is imported from India this port, but now 60 to 70 trucks onions are imported every day. These onions are being imported from different states like Nasik, Nagpur, Patna, Indore, Uttar Pradesh, in India.

On the other hand, the impact of the onion import from India by the port has affected the wholesale market of Hili land port. In the last three days, onion prices decreased by 8 to 10 rupees in the hill station. Onions of 20 to 22 taka are now being sold at Tk 12 to Tk 15.

The port authorities said that on the import of at least 6,000 metric tonnes of onion through the Hilli land port last week, 10 thousand metric tons of onion is imported from India by this port this week.

Deputy Commissioner of Hili Customs Fokrul Ahmad said that officials of the customs officials are working on imported onions so that they can be easily and quickly redeemed. And the importation of these onions is totally free of cost.

Nazrul Hossain Chowdhury, the importer of Hili land port import, said that LC is open more than onion due to the needs of Ramadan. On the other side, on the other side of the border, there are about 300 trucks on the pipeline waiting for entry into the port. So, if the demand is high on Ramadan, onion prices are not expected, he said. image
