Testing & Celebrating @good-karma's eSteem Surfer 1.0.0

in #esteem7 years ago (edited)

Finally there is a Steem application that pays tribute to the most amazing people in the world: surfers!

I'm kidding.

Obviously Surfer 1.0.0 - the new Steem desktop client - is made for everybody. And honestly, after only 10 minutes using it I can say: Everybody should use it!

It was in the Smart Media Token Telegram chat - thanks for the invitation @ned! - where @free999enigma linked @good-karma's Surfer release. Now after installing and testing the application on my computer, I'm really blown away by the amazing set of new features it provides.

By the way: This article was edited and published via eSteem Surfer 1.0.0.

Here's a surfer's approval of Surfer 1.0.0!

Surfing the blockchain

As most of you might know, surfing is my favourite activity.

The fact that I can now surf the Steem blockchain is really cool!

Surfer 1.0.0 is a fantastic combination of blogging interface and dashboard. Besides the regular tools to browse through content, it enables us to recall a lot of additional data from the blockchain.

Here are some of my favourite tools and gimmicks:
Activity dashboard - Now we can finally track who's started to follow and who's mentioned us!

Favorite users list - Now we can create our personal list of favorite steemians, which is a great adding to the content feed!
esteem2.png

Currency calculator - Now we can display payouts in our favorite currency, how cool's that!

Split screen - Having the preview of your article displayed next to the editor (and not below) is brilliant and makes editing much easier and more efficient!

Last but not least, we can finally save draft versions of our blog posts - what a revolution!

As you can see there's a lot of new features and gimmicks that make surfing on Steem even more entertaining and efficient

To me the combination of functional data recall and playful display options, is the greatest benefit of Surfer 1.0.0.

I needed to deactivate my antivirus software for a moment in order to install the *.exe. But then everything was smooth and easy. Everybody who has used Steemit.com or busy.org for a while will intuitively understand Surfer 1.0.0.

I'm happy with the version, and as requested by @good-karma here are a few things I'd love to see in one of the following releases.

Wish list for additional features:

  1. URL: I think many people work with the URL when using Steem - e.g. when jumping from one user profile to another. It'd be great to display it as an additional way to navigate.
  2. User tagging: It'd be great to open a dropdown with the names of all the users one is following when typing the '@' sign into the editor.
  3. It'd be great to have more features in the editor such as: image upload and editing in HTML.

@good-karma: Your first release is already A++, so we may only imagine how amazing the updates will be!

Thanks for making Steem even more attractive to content creators and curators!

And now everybody download the desktop client and go trying it! You can find the link in the official announcement.

Surf on!

Much love,
Marly -

Keep up the good work Marly! Upvoted!

Thank you for feedbacks and first review!

URL: I think many people work with the URL when using Steem - e.g. when jumping from one user profile to another. It'd be great to display it as an additional way to navigate.

Did you know, You can paste any steemit or busy link in Search field, it will open post for you. Also typing any username for example @surfermarly on Search will open your account directly. Ability to search for any keywords is quite useful for me and it improves my Surfing, please try it out... Feature to get post link will come with next version.

User tagging: It'd be great to open a dropdown with the names of all the users one is following when typing the '@' sign into the editor.

Great suggestion, noted it down. We will certainly work on that.

It'd be great to have more features in the editor such as: image upload and editing in HTML.

Image upload is already implemented, have you tried to click on image icon or tried to drop image on top of editor?! Editing will also be improved as we continue development!

Thank you again!

Thank you so much for getting back on my suggestions!

I didn’t know that the search field works like that - so that’s kindly noted and appreciated!

By clicking on the image icon in the editor (navigation on the left hand side), this here appears in the content field of the editor: ! [ ]( u r l )
I left spaces in between all the characters in order to display it well here.

Now how can I upload the image into the editor then?

What I did for my post was uploading the images into the Steemit editor and then copy-pasting the url into the markdown code fragment above. From your comment I deduce that there’s an easier way to do that...?

Again thanks for your support, both by upvoting and commenting :-)

It looks like image icon not showing file selection is a bug. Alternative solution is to drag your images and drop them on editor, it will upload and paste link for you. We will fix image icon selection bug with next release. 🙏

Fantastic, thank you!!

For now I DON'T KNOW O RUN THIS ONE , BUT I WAS R=TRYING to fixed this one, can yoiu help me? @good-karma

Well this looks rather sweet, and it's like it's been named just for you!

Is it possible to add customized favorites list?

So something like 'surfers' - and a feed of those guys content?

Looks pretty cool to me, and thinking @good-karma will appreciate the surfers approval!

Haha, yeah that was what I thought: An app called Surfer - wow! :-)
I hope they enjoy my feedback, of course. Surfers need to stick together, hehe

As far as I've seen, there's one list of favorites - so there's where you can list your favourite users. I don't think there's an option to create multiple lists, but that would actually be a great suggestion for one of the next releases!

Stick together - except on the waves where some distance is always welcome. (Thinking of @surfermarly skimming people on mulitple videos on the blockchain!)

I would love custom lists. 1 favorites list is not enough and categorizing followers in to custom named groups sounds useful to me.

Haha yeah! Sharing is caring in the water :-)
You could join the eSteem discord server and suggest multiple favorite lists though. I think this would be a great adding!

Not another discord server!!! :D

okkk, I will join and suggest..... but don't hate if I forget to return as i cant find it on my list!

Edit: Done!

Wow this is very amazing! Thanks for great contribution on esteem and your suggestion is awesome! Thank you for feedback to esteem! Will be great if you want to put esteem discord as well! Thanks!!!<3

You're more than welcome @yandot! So I suppose you're also part of the eSteem team? I only linked @good-karma, since I didn't know who else was involved. But obviously the applause belongs too all contributors :-)

Of course I'll be happy to include the discord link!
EDIT: Done :-)

Oooh... sounds great! Will definetely try it! :-) Many thanks to @good-karma !

Once you've tried it, let me know what you think about it! :-)

Many Thanks for sharing Marly! I will immediately have a look at the download. Surf on an enjoy the weekend!

You're more than welcome @livelifefullest!
By the way: Did you notice that it was your blog which I displayed above when explaining the 'favorite users' feature? :-))

Surf on!
