Miracle of Childbirth—Amazing Photographs

I remember visiting the Alexandria Library, when I lived in Egypt, as a young man in my twenties. These stunning images of how a baby forms were up on the gallery walls and blown up the size of murals, so that they towered above me. It was exhilarating, but also an overwhelming experience: profoundly life-affirming and strangely spiritual, even. (I think I might've found it hard to breath, at some point).

It felt as dizzying as peering into an inner universe, or peeling back a curtain reserved for the Divine... I was, unquestioningly, pro-abortion those days and did not have much of a spiritual life, really, but these stunning images gave me pause for thought and haunted me, for years.

Swedish photographer, Lennart Nilsson, spent 12 years of his life taking pictures of the human foetus, as it developed in the womb. His first photo was taken in 1965. With conventional cameras—with macro lenses, an endoscope and scanning electron microscope—Nilsson used a magnification of hundreds of thousands and “worked” right in the womb.*

Below, is an awe-inspiring selection from these remarkable documents of the origin of life. I hope you enjoy this reminder of everyday miracles and one more reason to admire Women for being entrusted with such a marvelous Secret!

I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. (Psalm 139:14)

Oh, Yahia, nothing could be a better finishing for such marvelous set of pictures decorated with your thoughts, than this Psalm!!!

You know, when I was pregnant back then, I remember how I saw my son for the first time during the sonogram (it was supposed to be at 12 weeks, but I intentionally waited until 15, I didn't want him to be bothered that early). And you know, at exactly that moment when I saw him moving his legs and arms inside of me, I realized that I was carrying a new life inside of me, I started to cry so much, haha, what a shame, that doctor must have thought I'm crazy))))))

That's interesting how you share this post and I'm thinking about having a second child)))

Thanks, for your trust in sharing your response—crying in joy, disbelief and gratitude seems like a perfectly reasonable response to this Mystery, Katya 🙏🏼

I’m glad this post reached you at a time when you’re considering , again, (I think you’re a natural mother).

Happy, too, spiritual quote spoke to you 🙇🏻‍♂️
