imageTapaktuan. April 7, 2018. One Cat (Felis bengalensis) 2-year-old male cat is secured by RKW 15 Tapaktuan officers with BBTNGL officers and WCS-IP partners, from local residents who have kept them for about 1 week. According to the residents, he did not know that the cat is one of the wild animals protected by Law no. 5 of 1990 on the Conservation of Biological Natural Resources and its Ecosystem and Government Regulation no. 7 of 1999 on the Preservation of Plants and Animals. imageOnce secured, the Forest Cats are released in the Gunung Leuser National Park area in the hope that the cats remain sustainable in the wild, as the IUCN International Conservation Society includes the Forest Cats as a protected animal even in the Least Concern category and CITES Cat Forest into the category Appendix II which means that the animal can become extinct if the trade of the animal continues without any arrangement. imageReport crime against wild plants and wildlife by calling BKSDA Call Center (0853-6283-6024)
