We are kicking off a new series of posts today titled “Top names in crypto”. This week, we’re putting Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin under the spotlight.

Here are 5 interesting facts about Vitalik Buterin:

Vitalik was only 19 years old when he wrote the white paper for Ethereum — which, in return, became the crypto industry’s leading protocol token.

It was Vitalik’s father who introduced him to Bitcoin and blockchain two years prior, when he was only 17.

He is the cofounder of Bitcoin Magazine (bitcoinmagazine.com), the first publication solely dedicated to cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin. The magazine was acquired by BTC Media in 2015.

Vitalik’s parents moved to Canada when he was around 6 years old. When he was in third grade, the school wanted to put him in a class for “gifted children” as he was innately talented in maths.

He earned his first Bitcoins writing for tech blogs about Bitcoin and blockchain. It is said that he was paid 5 BTC for each article he wrote at the time.
