Hoax News of Vitalik Buterin's Death caused Ethereum to drop 20% wiping out $4 Billion in market cap
A hoax news of the death of Vitalik Buterin, creator of ethereum caused ethereum price to drop nearly 20%.
This hoax news of the death of Buterin in an car accident started from 4chan forum yesterday and later picked up by some of the online news sites. And this caused nearly a wipe out of $4 billion in ethereum market cap. To stop the damage Buterin immediately took to social media by posting a photo him holding a paper with ethereum block number and corresponding hash on twitter.
This caused ethereum price to go below $300 mark first time in last two and a half week. After Buterin’s tweet price started to pick up slowly from $209 to $241. (at the time of writing)
