ShapeShift's Official Statement on ETC

Official Statement Regarding “Ethereum Classic” (aka ETH-C or ETC) July 24, 2016

Users Beware: Do not send ETC to ShapeShift prior to it being officially supported. You will lose your funds.

After the Ethereum blockchain went through a hard fork several days ago, a subset of the Ethereum community has preferred to stick with the original chain. Thus both sides of the fork are currently in use, though the hard-forked Ethereum branch is significantly ahead in terms of hash rate and market value (at the time of writing).

Since the fork, ShapeShift has only supported the hard-forked Ethereum (ETH).

However, as of today, some other exchanges have enabled the trading of both Ethereum (ETH) and the original Ethereum “Classic” (ETC).

ShapeShift is considering whether to add support for ETC and is watching the situation develop. Until ShapeShift adds support for ETC, it is NOT SUPPORTED, and any ETC transactions to ShapeShift will fail and may be lost. ShapeShift accepts no liability for ETC transactions, just as we accept no liability for any transactions of any assets we do not support.

During this period of uncertainty, we recommend non-technical Ethereum users who may not understand how to split their funds properly do no attempt to send transactions or trade if they are interested in retaining their ETHC.

Please see www.reddit.com/r/ethereum for more information about the hard fork.
