Ethereum developers can reduce emissions tenfold in 2021.
Ethereum emissions may be reduced tenfold in 2021. This is the prediction made by Justin Drake, researcher at the Ethereum Foundation.
"January 2020: Launch of the beacon chain. June 2020: Introduction of the lightweight eth2 client. November 2020: fork eth1 #1 to ensure the completion of eth2. March 2021: fork eth1 #2 to reduce emissions by ten," he said, noting that the timing is likely to change in the process.
Previously, it was expected that the award would be reduced from 2 ETH to 0.22 ETH after the complete abandonment of the Proof-of-Work mechanism. The likelihood that this will happen in 2021 is small, as it will require a transition period during which smart contracts and other network tools will be transferred to the Beacon-chain with chardinga support, believes Trustnodes. It is expected that full chardoning will be launched by 2021, after which it may take several years to develop the ecosystem to the point where it will be possible to completely abandon PoW.
It was also expected that after the launch of the hybrid system, the award for PoW miners would be reduced to 0.6 ETH. However, Drake now states that in a conservative scenario this may not happen, and then the emission may even increase before it is reduced by switching to PoS.
Representatives of the Ethereum Foundation are reluctant to answer questions, probably because they have not yet made a final decision. In particular, they do not explain what can prevent the reduction of awards in PoW-chains and how they plan to abandon it in 2021.
Next year the developers will launch a separate chain, where users can transfer their ETH for stacking, but the possibility of their transfer back to the PoW-chain is not provided, indicates the information available today about their plans. As marks Trustnodes, Ethereum, as a matter of fact, enters an experimental stage where set of questions interesting to users yet finds no answers.
Seems ethereum want halving too to increase price - same as bitcoin :) What do you think, less emission is good?
