RE: ethOS 1.2.3 Released, Now supporting Nvidia GPU's for ethereum and zcash Mining

in #ethos7 years ago

I am pretty lazy I just prefer windows for Nvidia cards. I have an image with everything I need on it I can deploy in like 10 minutes with all updates etc disabled. I prefer the support and easy tweaking of settings in windows. Plus I hate waiting for things to be supported but this is a massive step up supporting ZEC and Nvidia.

Sure for most it's easy to do if you don't mind paying for a key on each of the systems. I like Ethos because it's very lightweight and the drivers I needs are already installed. It's a nice update for folks that wanna get away from a windows based mining environment. Wanna tune your cards? just update the local.conf and you are set. I have some Nvidia cards on the way and I'm interested in how much more hash-rate I can get with it.

The isssue is I don't mine a single coin. I mine a vast variaty and the big profit coins pretty much require windows and you can only chase them for a small amount of time. It is not convenient for tuning new cards with conf file. If you are mining ETH they wont be good unless they are 1060/1070. I mean they will be higher than what you have now but they are not worth ti for the cost other than 1060/1070. Is better things to mine on Nvidia.

BTW you don't need to pay for a key. You can happily mine away on an unactivated windows no issues, plus any old windows7 key still works and you can pretty much get them for free.
