Eugenics Education Chapter 2: Planned Parenthood

Chapter 2 Planned Parenthood

My purpose for presenting this article is not to debate the funding or defunding of Planned Parenthood. It is merely to get a historical reference of what is going on. If anyone questions the organization they are immediately first labeled a sexist, or a chauvinist. This is usually enough to deter anyone from continuing further. If they dare to continue further, they are met with the label racist. Most people would give up the fight against those kinds of attacks. However, how many of us know the real Margaret Sanger? The reality of the matter is she was a Eugenicist, and believed the unfit and feebleminded should be sterilized. However, thanks to the loudmouth that she was, she left many letters of her intent for history to recover. Let’s first take a look at her story.

Planned Parenthood is a multi-million dollar global NGO with over 600 centers nationwide. They provide education to 1.5 million young people and adults each year. They command 10 million activists, supporters and donors nationwide. (https://www.plannedparenthood.org/about-us/who-we-are ) “In partnership with more than 100 organizations across Africa and Latin America, we advance the health and rights of young people, women and families, with an emphasis on the most vulnerable and underserved. “ with a focus on Ecuador, Guatemala, Kenya, Mexico, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Peru, Senegal and Uganda. Very interesting. (https://www.plannedparenthood.org/about-us/planned-parenthood-global )

While some of us may know the American culture of eugenics and almost everyone is familiar with what happened in Europe. Many are not aware of who the women in Eugenics are. While there are a handful, the two that I will deal with are Margarete Sanger and Annie Basset as an over whelming wealth of information will be provided to the reader who ventures to dig deeper and examining each individual and organization as they are present through this research and links. I tried to initially present it all, however the octopus got too far off track from my point, no matter how valuable the information is I have to stay on course. Instead I will provide opportunities for individuals to go look for themselves to fill in the gaps.

Margaret Higgins Sanger (Aka Margarete Louise Higgins aka Margaret Sanger Slee) was born in to this world September 14, 1879 and passed on in 1966. Sanger was born to a working class Catholic Irish American family of 11. Her mother had several miscarriages in addition to 11 children that Sanger believed led to her death at the age of 40-50. She is the face of women’s rights, feminism, progressive liberalism and coined the term “birth control”. “Because of her father” the family lived in poverty. As an Irish stone mason, her father preferred to drink and talk politics instead of earn a steady wage. Lets flash back to Chapter 1 : If youre deemed to be: poor, low societal class, immigrant or minority, mental disability, insane, physical disability, alcoholic, chronic poverty, blind, deaf, “feeble-minded”, and promiscuous, then you were a candidate for government mandated forced sterilization.

Sanger and husband moved to New York around 1910 where they would endulge in the liberal social structure and became part of the radical political agendas of the time. “They socialized with the likes of writer Upton Sinclair and anarchist Emma Goldman. Sanger joined the Women's Committee of the New York Socialist Party and the Liberal Club. A supporter of the Industrial Workers of the World union, she participated in a number of strikes.” As a nurse in New York, Sanger worked in the poverty stricken lower East Side and witnessed the injustice to women, seeing women from primarily poor immigrant class families reported to be engaging in back alley abortions and began her fight for women reproductive rights to abortion.(https://www.biography.com/people/margaret-sanger-9471186 )
Sanger started a feminist publication called The Women Rebel in 1914. Due to The Comstock Act of 1873 her material was considered obscene and therefore illegal. Rather than face jail time Sanger fled the country to England. She would return to the United States 1 year later but war and work caused a separation from her husband and eventually led to divorce. This separation allowed Sanger to follow her desires of love and began to have AFFAIRS with psychologist Havelock Ellis (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Havelock_Ellis , https://auticulture.wordpress.com/2015/11/18/three-havelock-ellis-lolita-the-sexual-child/ ) and writer H. G. Wells(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H._G._Wells#Life ). I want to take an extended moment to recognize HGWells, whos “War of the Worlds” aired on radio in 1938 and is reported to cause mass hysteria. There is an ongoing debate if this is true and I will let you decide. However this will be an important item in a future chapter. (http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/welles-scares-nation, http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2013/10/30/241797346/75-years-ago-war-of-the-worlds-started-a-panic-or-did-it ) Although H. G. Wells was a member of the Fabian Society from 1903 to 1908, he was a critic of its operations, particularly in his 1905 paper "The Faults of the Fabian", and parodied the society in his 1910 novel The New Machiavelli.[ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fabian_Society ]

When she fled to England with her husband she spent time in Paris studying contraception techniques while her husband stayed in England painting. William Sanger had traditional family values and apparently loved his wife, but their relationship became strained as the distance and knowledge of her having affairs plunged him into jealousy. This behavior made Margarete feel too constrained and she wanted a divorce. Her husband refused a divorce and continued to support her work. After being forced to return to America due to World War 1, he found himself in jail for 30 days for refusing to surrender the whereabouts of his estranged cheating wife for extradition. http://wyatt.elasticbeanstalk.com/mep/MS/xml/bsangerw.html

During her 1914 trip to England, she was also profoundly influenced by the liberation theories of Havelock Ellis, under whose tutelage she sought not just to make sexual intercourse safer for women, but more pleasurable. Another notable person she met around this time was Marie Stopes, who had run into Sanger after she had just given a talk on birth control at a Fabian Society meeting. In the early 1900s Fabian Society members advocated the ideal of a scientifically planned society and supported eugenics by way of sterilisation. In an article published in The Guardian on 14 February 2008 (following the apology offered by Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd to the "stolen generations"), Geoffrey Robertson criticised Fabian(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fabian_Society#Criticism ) socialists for providing the intellectual justification for the eugenics policy that led to the stolen generations scandal(http://www.encyclopedia.com/social-sciences/applied-and-social-sciences-magazines/stolen-generations-australia ). Similar claims have been repeated in The Spectator. However, these views on eugenics were not limited to one group of people and were widely shared throughout the political spectrum.

I must now take a moment to summarize the additional links in the article that I simply just don’t have room to present. Who was Ellis:
The founder of studies in support of homosexuality, lesbianism, transgenderism, pedophilia, autoerotism, and narcissism some of which would be furthered by Sigmund Feud. He was also president of the Eugenics Society. His concepts of sterilization however did not coincide with larger society. He did not feel anyone should be forced or mandated for sterilization as that could cause more physiological damage to a feebleminded person who may then be more of a menace on society. He instead preferred subversive methods of persuasion and coercion. If you can convince someone its for their own good, a willing participant would then psychologically provide no further threat and satisfy the eugenics agenda voluntarily. He discovered however that only the ‘superior stocks’ seemed to be educated and interested in birth control and while they were now controlling their reproduction the desired targets where not being reached and were still procreating too much. So he instead launched a targeted public education program in the schooling system targeted only at schools where less desirables were, to educate them on birth control in hopes of persuading the children to turn gay, lesbian, take birth control, or voluntarily be castrated or sterilized.
Even looking at the good side of the coin we have been able to establish a few things about Sanger’s personality. With reference for the time she lived in she was an adulterer and a sexual deviant and so were many of here associates. Now that we have established who her circle of friends were lets back on track. Sanger went on to start the first birth control clinic, which she was subsequently arrested for. In 1921 she established the American Birth Control League. Her hypergamy knows no bounds as she eventually established herself among the elites by marrying a wealthy oil businessman who provided much of the funding for her social reform agenda.( https://www.biography.com/people/margaret-sanger-9471186 )

But who was she really? She was a eugenicist and shared the same ideology as her counterparts. Through her speeches and recovered letters the world has been able to get a glimpse into who this woman was. She not only talks about the eradication of blacks, but she presents her most damaging information in a letter. In a letter to Clarence Gable in 1939, Sanger wrote: “We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population, and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members” (Margaret Sanger commenting on the ‘Negro Project’ in a letter to Gamble, Dec. 10, 1939).( http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/may/5/grossu-margaret-sanger-eugenicist/, http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/margaret-sanger/ )
It is argued that Planned Parenthood locations are conveniently placed within minority communities to specifically target the minorities. There seems to be a disconnect of the facts, where one side claims yes clinics are in minority neighborhoods the other side claims no they are not. Very strange shouldn’t this be verifiable? http://www.blackgenocide.org/planned.html

“Sanger was also a proponent of eugenics, and saw birth control as a method of promoting that agenda.” http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/day-16-race-eugenics-and-birth-control

“In the limited space of the present paper, I have time only to touch upon some of the fundamental convictions that form the basis of our Birth Control propaganda, and which, as I think you must agree, indicate that the campaign for Birth Control is not merely of eugenic value, but is practically identical in ideal, with the final aims of Eugenics.” https://www.nyu.edu/projects/sanger/webedition/app/documents/show.php?sangerDoc=238946.xml
NYU link provided above is the project to collect all of Sanger’s lost letters.

It is important to note here that Sanger is rumored to have had a love interest for Hitler. It is also rumored that part of her journey to Europe was to visit him and examine his Eugenics program. However, these letters are “lost” to history, but remain important to mention as this will come up again. I have no verifiable source although I recall reading this years ago.

Full synopsis of Margarete Sanger’s position on Blacks and concentration “farms”. The Need Of Birth Control in America article by Margarete Sanger. . Must watch as it is the linchpin of this article. 7min “Adolph Hitler's Connection to Planned Parenthood Explained”

PJTV -- Forgotten Newsreel History: Margaret Sanger Declaring 'No More Babies' very interesting video on 21st century progressive liberalism. Be aware its is not favorable.

30 minute interview with Sanger and Mike Wallace.

Nice propaganda collage piece of Hillary Clinton’s position on Sanger.

Important article to put things in perspective in 2013 in New York is was discovered that in the African community there were 29,007 while in that same community there were 24,108 babies born. http://www.politifact.com/texas/statements/2015/nov/25/cynthia-meyer/cynthia-meyer-says-more-black-babies-are-aborted-n/

WTF? So how did all this happen? How did we go from a woman who was a racist Eugenicist to the most funded, globally spread organization, hotly debated, violently defended, Leader of woman’s liberation, and champion of female right? So much so that we have African women supporting the one company that was designed to kill them?

Lets dig a little deeper:
The key to understanding all of this mess is in some key words. Propaganda and Ministers. In her 1921 article “The Eugenic Value of Birth Control Propaganda” Sanger demonstrates to us that she is familiar with what propaganda is. And in her letter to Clarence Gable in 1939 she expressed her desire to get Negro ministers on the payroll. What most people don’t understand is at the turn of the century a new science was being mastered. The art of propaganda.

“Edward L. Bernays, the nephew of Sigmund Freud, is the father of manipulative propaganda in America. Mass persuasion and mass hypnosis is the foundation of so-called democracy.”
In his book, “Propaganda,” 1928 Bernays writes:
Those who manipulate the unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. We are governed, our minds molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested largely by men we have never heard of.
In almost every act of our lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business or in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires that control the public mind. http://www.alt-market.com/articles/2661-planned-parenthood-modern-day-eugenics-and-the-american-holocaust

I used that last source just for Eddie B, but it is still an interesting read. Now the discrepancy arises because his book was published in 1928 her article was in 1921. The social science of Public relations started in approximately 1903 with the lesser known Ivy Lee. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivy_Lee

Eddy B was also fairly active at this time, however we will discuss him in another article. I merely want to identify that because the book came after doesn’t mean the science wasn’t in practice. In fact, propaganda in its modern form, was the new thing and everyone wanted a piece of it.

The creation of the company was in 1921 as the American birth control league. Also worth noting this was the same time she wrote her piece on Propaganda. She then began damage control through the 20’s and 30’s based on the information that was coming out of Europe.

“And the reality is that despite the fact that Sanger's anti-militarism and isolationism during the 1920s and 1930s at times obscured her abhorrence of the Nazis, she was deeply shocked and horrified by the evils and dangers of fascism, Hitler and the Nazi party. "All the news from Germany is sad & horrible," she wrote in 1933, "and to me more dangerous than any other war going on any where because it has so many good people who applaud the atrocities & claim its right.” https://www.nyu.edu/projects/sanger/articles/sanger-hitler_equation.php

At the height of the war in 1942, she would rename the company Planned Parenthood to put a more pleasant spin on the name and distance herself from Eugenics anticipating the collapse of Germany.

But she still had to seal one more deal……one more deal to get the uppity negros on board. In the sixties she found her opportunity. For the past 10 years America was experiencing the civil rights movement. And in 1966 the first ever Margarete Sanger awards were issued.
Lyndon Johnson – Leadership
Betty Goetting – Birth control promotion
Carl Hartman - Medicine
Dr. King's award was presented on May 5, 1966. The citation read
"This award is presented to the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr., for his courageous resistance to bigotry and his lifelong dedication to the advancement of social justice and human dignity.”
Mrs. King declared, "I am proud tonight to say a word in behalf of your mentor, and the person who symbolizes the ideas of this organization, Margaret Sanger. Because of her dedication, her deep convictions, and for her suffering for what she believed in, I would like to say that I am proud to be a woman tonight."

I guess she found her negro pastor. You should check that article out.

Ok thank you for sticking to it. You now understand why there is so much controversy over Planned Parenthood and you now have the truth.

Sort:

My Reply speak to the portion of the article discussing the location of clinics-
While Childress is obviously bias, he is not the only one with this position. Furthermore this article by the Washington times has a blatant misinformed statement that discredits the author: http://www.washingtontimes.com/.../fewer-abortion.../ " Minority women, like other women, seek abortion because of unwanted pregnancies, not “aggressive marketing,” Guttmacher researchers say" We know this to be a false statement based on the research and evidence provided, aggressive marketing starts at a young age in the schooling system.. Alt market was merely used for Edward Bernays, which is a direct quote from his book and doesnt speak to any position regarding abortion. I stated the intent of that source clearly in the article. I simply stated that the piece was worth a read. In my next piece I will provide you links to the book to do your own reading.Hey look the people doing the research is part of Planned Parenthood....no conflict there. "When Guttmacher was founded (as the Center for Family Planning Program Development) in 1968, it was initially housed within the corporate structure of Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA)." https://www.guttmacher.org/guttmacher-institute-faq

As we go further it appears this organization Guttmacher is the focal point of the whole opposition to the location of offices as they are once again sourced in this article http://www.npr.org/sections/itsallpolitics/2015/08/14/432080520/fact-check-was-planned-parenthood-started-to-control-the-black-population In the article it also disavows Sangers relationship to her racist Eugenicist ideology. As of right now, based on the evidence, the position in support of Planned Parenthood locations is discredited due to conflicts of interest and foreign locations only in minority countries. http://www.npr.org/sections/itsallpolitics/2015/08/14/432080520/fact-check-was-planned-parenthood-started-to-control-the-black-population and they have the audacity to call the the piece fact checking. As stated in the piece there is a disconnect of facts. From what I can see, it appears the individuals apposing PP with claims of targeting minority communities dont seem to have adequate research to back their position, while supporters use false info and a organization discredited for conflict of interests to support their position. Dr. Grazie Christie, a radiologist who is a senior policy advisor for The Catholic Association has the same sentiment as others against PP " She argues that the abortion rates are higher among Latinas because most Planned Parenthood clinics are located in minority neighborhoods or within walking distance of minority neighborhoods and because black and Latina women are disproportionately lower income and can use Medicaid for their services.

"You're not going to find Planned Parenthood in a ritzy, suburban enclave," she said. "http://www.nbcnews.com/news/latino/planned-parenthood-debate-holds-importance-latinas-n425126 It is apparent this is a disinformation campaign on the part of PP who in the face of accusations without support, overshot their position to instead incriminate themselves through conflict of interest.
