Why do I join Chengdu Toastmasters Club ?

Hi, my dear friends! Are you looking for a platform which you can learn, grow and make friends?

Are you searching a club to improve your spoken English? Do you want to improve your leadership?

If your answers to the above three questions are yes and it happens that you meet me, I’d like to say you are so lucky. I will introduce you to Chengdu Toastmasters Club which is a good platform to practice English speech and leadership skills and make friends.

I'm Vivian. I joined Chengdu Toastmasters Club on Oct.12th of 2017.That means I have been in this club for about a year. I hope to complete 10 prepared English speeches by the end of this month. Today is my CC9 speech. I'd like to share my growth story with you. I'm eager to tell you why I join Chengdu Toastmasters Club.

Firstly, I have a strong desire to improve my spoken English. I ever built an English club and I ran it for three years. But later few people came to take part in my activities. So I closed it. I need a platform to practice my spoken English. So I came to experience the activities of Chengdu Toastmasters Club. I feel good and joined this club after National Day in 2017.Until today, I still keep such a good feeling.

Secondly, I grow here. From last October to now, I only missed two activities. As I keep coming here, I finished all roles of Toastmasters Club's meeting, from timer to general evaluator and Toastmaster. I tried every role here. This is a good way to practice my leadership ability. In order to act every role well, I have to prepare in advance. I need to write down what I said before hand.

I never wrote speech script before. After I joined Chengdu Toastmasters Club, I got into the habit of writing scripts. My fellow member Mei ever praised me for having few superfluous words in my speech. I owe it to my constant practice in script writing.

And what is more, I gain confidence from delivering public speeches. The more stage time I have, the more confident I will be. After delivering 8 speeches, I become more confident and have the courage to try new things. I dare to other Toastmasters Clubs, such as Simple Chinese Toastmasters Club, Fandeng Toastmasters Club and Chengdu Advanced Toastmasters Club to take roles and deliver speeches. In this way, I meet more friends and expand my influence. I feel quite good and love it.

Thirdly, my life became rich and colorful after joining Chengdu Toastmasters Club. I can always gain nutrition from fellow members’ speeches and sharing. Their stories enrich my life. Give you some examples. Lio ever shared his travelling experience in Three Gorges, I can know something about Three Gorges and the tour guide’s skill of promoting tea from his speech. Water is good at making PPT. He has made 4 PPT workshops at Chengdu Toastmasters Club. I can learn how to make PPT well in this club with no charge. Chengdu Toastmasters Club helps me to open another window to see this beautiful world.

Last but not least, this is a club not an English corner. Whether you make prepared speeches or impromptu speeches, you will receive feedback and evaluation. In this way, you can know how to do better next time. In addition, every meeting needs many roles, even if you don’t make speeches. You can take roles to practice your leadership, such as how to organize a meeting, how to evaluate fellow member’s speech, how to design questions for table topic speech section. Through this kind of practice, we can improve our public speech ability and leadership.
