One of the main reasons for the success of Facebook was the like button, and not only that it was the absence of the dislike button. That helped hiding the rude behavior of users. This came at a cost, people often were confused to hit like on posts like I'm feeling sick or I lost my grandparent! and of course putting a dislike button wasn't the option, it would make online bullying very easy, & this is why reactions came out, and we would look at them angry, sad, haha, love, like, wow: they were carefully chosen not to be used to bully but that also none of them can be used to disagree! and whatever reaction you make would only add up to the interactions with the post making it spread more to others because that's how Facebook algorithme works. the more engage the post gets the more Facebook show it in the news feed of friends etc.

And this is not just bad it is worst than bad, because it favors bad posts over controversial posts & controversial posts over good ones! and that's exactly the opposite of what a user wants from social media websites. a customized news feed based on what we like & what we are interested in!

I'll explain. We tend more to ignore posts that seem normal or even fun, and by ignore I mean we see the post we read it we like it then we move on, But this doesn't happen with controversial posts. There will be 2 groups of people constantly arguing in comments giving more engages to the post, Causing it to spread out more. And it's even worst with bad posts really bad posts that trigger the viewer. In a study of what makes online content viral angry posts were the most engagement happened! (picture from the study below) and this can be easily seen in Facebook's news feed. There's always that stupid marriage demand on diridarek that finds its way to my news feed for the simple reason that it was stupidly bad that it pissed people off. Or that Sexist post about women joining army, or even Nahar TV videos.

Now of couse one can dislike all the pages that tend to publish such posts. But still have find it in his news feed because that's what friends are liking and commenting on, Which personally led me to unfollow every friend who comments on such posts (sorry guys)

Reddit on the other hand is a great example of the benefits of the dislike (down-vote) button. And since user profile is just a pseudo and comments, There are almost no risk of online bullying, And with subreddits dedicated to specific topics like philosophy, art, photography, video games, Askscience, explain like I'm five... it provides a fully customized news feed for the user. With a much better quality of posts, since the downvote would prevent bad/controversial posts from hitting the top posts on the Subreddit. Seems like the utopia of internet, except that despite being the 9th on Alexa's top viewed websites worldwide, it is still dominated with Americans, with no sign of Algerians. And after checking it for few days I end up knowing about US's political problems/jokes about Trump more than the more important important Algerian issues/News.

I'm done I guess I didn't write this to convince anyone with anything I write it because I love writing and I think this is worth sharing on my profile but I won't miss the chance to tell you to stop commenting stupid posts and help making Facebook a more friendly place to browse because you must be a hero (or really bored) for making it here
