I Deleted Facebook and I am Not Looking Back

With all of the revelations about how Facebook is more of a surveillance platform than a social network, I decided to delete my account after being an active user for nearly a decade. It was not an easy decision to make because using it became a daily habit. Like so many Facebook users, I would often check my feed and notifications to see if anyone liked one of my posts.

Here are some of the pros and cons of leaving Facebook once and for all:

Pros:

  1. You get greater privacy in your life.
  2. My iPhone battery life has improved since deleting the app.
  3. I am finding new and interesting ways to spend my time like using Steemit.

There was only one con to leaving Facebook, and that is the fact that Facebook was the sole way I connected with old friends and distant family.

It will be interesting to see how my interactions will change now that Facebook is not an option to reach some people or vice versa. That could be the topic of a future post.

Overall, I feel liberated to have deleted my Facebook account. If you are thinking about deleting your account, I say, "Come on in--the water's fine."
