Why Leave Facebook for Steemit

in #facebook8 years ago

I'll admit it right off the bat - I'm not exactly the expert on Steemit, especially at this stage. Nonetheless, I have noticed quite a few things wrong with Facebook that have been enough for me to consider leaving its tainted waters for a new social network.

  1. Facebook in-breeds
Although the site has been making a distinct effort to advertise and showcase varying views on areas of public controversy, there's still the idea of Facebook consistently targeting ads and even friends' posts towards those you have favored in the past. This only leads to a continuous stream of content that feeds into the same mentality you've always had, strengthening and polarizing views on any and every social issue.

  2. Facebook makes it difficult to discover gems
You're forced to follow your friends, and your friends alone. There are even in-site mechanisms that prevent you from friending those outside your circle. However, what about people who are not necessarily your friends, but more than strangers? It's difficult to target posts to specific audiences, especially since the idea of having different circles isn't built into the Facebook identity.

  3. Facebook sets a limit on your networks
As you continue to acquire friends, you eventually reach a hard limit - 5000. Sure, that may be an enormous number, but it's not unfathomably large to reach, especially if you're someone who's a little more public. Wait, but there are Facebook pages for that! Nonetheless, pages don't accomplish what a personal profile is for - personal relationships. There's really no middle ground, which just blurs the line and makes ruin of the different between your private and public life.

  4. Annoying posts will continue to reappear
Since Facebook only judges posts by reactions, the more reactions a person receives, the more popular their posts are perceived to be. Never mind those may be negative reactions for the most part, but all you'll see if their single post continually repeating itself on your news feed day after day.

There's certainly more reasons for why Facebook is dying, but these are perhaps some of the biggest issues the social networks needs to target stat, at least before it truly becomes the next MySpace.

Sort:

While these facts are true, I believe the two purposes are different. Facebook was designed to stay with your friends in touch while steemit (for now) seems more to be an article hub with voting rights. Furthermore you don't have a chance to share fotos, posts, etc. only privately with your friends (however this is another discussion, how facebook defines "privacy" :D)
