Parenting Nowadays : Basic Do's and Dont's
Being a Parent is not enough just by giving their needs-- food, shelter, clothes, and education.
Establishing the order that mankind should observe, God Almighty instituted sacred matrimony through which He blesses a man and a woman--uniting them as husband and wife, commanding them after the union to have children to whom they should teach His commandments.
Children raised in blessed marriage with Christian discipline and instruction are a gift from the Lord and a real blessing--parents' pride and happiness, obedient and respectful, doing what is pure and right and many more, Parents who abide by this divine order with all honesty and confidence can attest that they find such blessings.
On the contrary, many parents, for some causes, experience the opposite--making them so disappointed and broken-hearted. Openly or silently, they admit that their children are among those whom the Bible identifies as children who mistreat their parents and bring them to ruin, shame and disgrace. Children's acts of disrespect to their parents mirror the moral and spiritual decline prevalent in many societies across culture and races.
"For people will love only themselves and their money; they will be proud and boastful, sneering at God, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful to them, and thoroughly bad. They will be hardheaded and never give in to others; they will constant liars and troublemakers and will nothing immorality. They will be rough and cruel and sneer at those who try to be good. They will betray their friends; they will be hotheaded, puffed up with pride, and prefer good times to worshipping God."
According to Thomas Lickona, an American Developmental Psychologist, professor of education, author of several books on character development, cites 10 troubling trends in youth character.
- Rising Youth Violence.
- Increasing Dishonesty.
- Growing disrespect for parents, teachers, and other legitimate authorities.
- Increasing Peer Cruelty.
- A rise in prejudice and crime.
- The deterioration of Language.
- A decline in work ethic.
- Declining personal and civic responsibilities.
- A surge of self-destructive behaviors such as premature sexual activity, alcohol and drug abuse, and suicide.
- Growing ethical illiteracy, including ignorance of moral knowledge as basic as the Golden Rule and the tendency to engage in destructive behavior without thinking it wrong.
Basic Do's of Parenting
Reverence for God Almighty must be the first to be taught to children and they will hate evil, pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech.
Parents should teach their children to obey God's commandments, repeating them at all opportune time.
Teaching their children obedience to God's laws, the mandatory and prohibitive, PARENTS SHOULD SET AS AN EXAMPLE TO THEIR CHILDREN.
Basic Don'ts of Parenting
Parents should not withhold correcting their children with the rod, it is no longer effective but also inhumane.
In correcting their children, parents should not provoke or embitter them, that is, scolding them too much or treating them harshly that they become discouraged.
Whatever hindrance there might be, should not deny their children the time to teach and repeat to them God's laws, for they will show them the right way.
Children, if not consciously protected, are easy victims due to their volatility and innocence.
