Why I Disappear from Steemit on Sundays
Hey, this is my first attempt at Steepshot, clap for me!!
I go dark on Steemit on Sundays. Super dark. No comments dark. No upvotes, no posts, no resteems dark. Dark dark. Thai soccer team in a cave dark.
Too soon?
Okay, so why do I disappear? What's going on?
Screen Free Sunday is what's going on. As I mention in a previous blog on screen addiction, @suitcasemama and I started doing SFSs about a year ago and we absolutely love it.
We're not perfect at it - if we need to grab an Uber, arrange a meeting, or have a skype date with grandma, that's fine.
Actually, Uber got kicked out of Thailand, so we can't grab an Uber. These days we grab a Grab. But I digress.
We do avoid screens as much as possible, letting things that can wait until Monday wait until Monday. And you know what?
Most things can wait until Monday.
Should it be easy to take one day out of the week to fast from our screen addiction? YES! Is it always easy? NO! It's amazing actually. Just taking that one day off, you'll feel the itch to swipe, check, scroll, post - it's not easy to be cut off from those dopamine hits.
While Screen Free Sunday would be worthwhile just to expose our addiction to tech, there are other obvious and immediate benefits. We read more. Conversations are deeper. Our pace slows. We're more 'bored' sitting around the house so we tend to get out and explore our city and interact with our community. We're more likely to go outside and enjoy nature at a park or on a hike.
The whole day goes by more slowly, giving us the sense of a longer weekend. We're more likely to see friends, exercise, get to bed at a reasonable time. I find myself very rested Monday morning, perfect way to start the new work week.
I'd encourage you to give it a shot! If anything, I think it's a good way to remind ourselves how much we rely upon and have become dependent upon our devices.

I think it's a wonderful idea. Things can always wait until Monday. Ben & I would struggle so much with this but would be willing to give it a shot. We both spend way too much time glued to screens. Wishing you a lovely week ahead!
Give it a shot, if only to see how hard it is. The brain definitely needs some time to adjust!
Thanks for stopping by and wishing a great week as well! I hope things aer going well there. Find a good place to stay? Learning Spanish? Most importantly, did you find some good al pastor tacos yet?!?! Yummmmm!!!! :)
Actually, if you DO end up trying it out, do you mind letting me know how it went? I'm curious how you guys will experience it and what insights you might have...
Oh my god! I've been meaning to let you know. The pastor tacos are now my new obsession. DROOL! I'm so glad you mentioned it. We found a really good place just down the street that sells us a whole box of the stuff for so cheap. From about 11am each morning it's all I can think about, haha! I love it. We're now on a mission to try as many places in town as we can.
Spanish is going well. Ben is much more dedicated than I am but I have a few words down. I'll have to pick up my game as we're staying for a little while longer. Booked our next month on Isla Mujeres...very much looking forward to some island time.
Haha! (or jaja as they say in Mexico!)
Awesome! I'm glad you found some good ones! I made the mistake of reading your response around lunch time and got super cravings for al pastor tacos - not easy to come by in Bangkok!
Best of luck with your Spanish! And make sure to keep an eye on Ben when you're on Women Island! :)
Is Ben on Steemit as well?
Oh no! I hope you could find a yummy alternative for lunch. Ever since I left Canada I've been craving poutine.
Haha I will keep an eye on him. He has an account @benbodhi but he hasn't posted anything it yet. I've been hassling him but he's just so busy with work atm. I'll keep posting for the both of us 😀
Tell him he's gained a follower, so he's up to four. Tell him 25% of his fans demand content!
I'm in Bangkok, I found an alternative. Lots of alternatives! :) There's even a pretty good Mexican place nearby!
Haha...good point! I'll let him know. And yeah I bet. You'd have access to some of the finest food in the world. Jelly!
Such a great idea. When I worked a normal schedule Thursday nights were our 'unplugged' nights. We'd drive around the city, play board games, go sit in one of the many parks that were around where we were living. Go see a movie. Anything that did not involve phones or computers. We both miss that. Well we're missing more than that as of late, but we have such great memories from those moments.
We love it so much too. It's good to have a bit of a reset every week. You should fire it up again and let us know how it goes! I see you're in Colorado, so plenty of outdoor options there!
Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!
Great Idea ... we all spend too much time in front of a screen.
Thanks @rentmoney! You going to try it? ;)
I'm not sure about a picking a day but I'm certainly going to cut back my over-all screen time.
Great! All the best and I hope it goes well!
This is a really good idea @eoj and I'm finding it very easy to tag you. Your username is only 3 letters and is very easy to remember - Joe spelled backwards!
Ha, thanks @chrisrice!
I'll definitely be giving this a shot, maybe not on a Sunday but there'll be a day in the week when I have a screen free day! Thanks :)
Cool! Best of luck and let me know how it goes once you try it!
Thanks for stopping by!!

A great idea, we limit screens and have family time every evening and for all meals - screens not permitted at all. Also the kids aren't allowed to charge their phones in their room so they cannot wake up and log on - they have to get up and head to the living room first.
Families def need to find a balance and it isn't always easy!
Thanks so much @mirriek, those are great suggestions as well! Great idea not to let the kids keep their phones in their rooms! @suitcasemama and I's little one is only two years old, so we try hard not to be on our devices in front of him and until he goes to nap or to sleep for the night, although we're not quite perfect at it!
I see you're in France, we have cousins in eastern France, near the Jura. We were just there last year and love that area! And congrats on the World Cup victory!
I don't know around Jura, it is supposed to be incredibly beautiful.
They went absolutely nuts around here when they won - there was some serious partying and there were honking their horns until well into the early hours. I have to confess we stayed in for it, we were out late the night before for Bastille day - fireworks and live music.
