From Lithuania to Latvia by bicycle - just small part of 3000km solo trip BLOG #3

in #family7 years ago (edited)

Early morning. The sleepy sun feels like to snooze a bit, but in the moment it starts to play somewhere among the branches of the trees. At last I say goodbye to my friends and confidently lift my relaxed ass on the saddle. Hold on… What? Hey, what??? Nooo! No way! I can’t believe, even after the wonderful rest day, it feels so much painful… 100km paddled the day before yesterday made its terrible business. Leaving my friends with the smile on my face and heading for Latvia. That requires all my strength… Ouch…Oh dear…

At noon becomes really hot. In order to smooth the pain of my bum I listen to the deep electro music through the headsets in its all sound.

Lithuania – Latvia frontier, abandoned piece of land that nobody needs.

Leaned my bike to the sign of Latvia I find myself sprinting behind an abandoned shanty to squirt what still hasn’t been sweat out. The huge carpet of used toilet paper welcomes me all around.

With the feeling of great importance and dignity on my face finally I step out. Exactly at that moment a Vespa with Italian number plate buzzes by.
Bonjorno!

A couple of Italians have poor skills of English. The best what we can do is to exchange smiles and common phrases. It turns out they are heading to St. Petersburg on their scooter. Vespa buzzes about 700-800 km a day. Probably this evening they already will be there. Funny people.

The second rangers’ squad to see me off – my dad and sis – meets me in Latvia, in Bauska town. They had found a camping near Riga. After staying with me for the night, they are going to leave for the seaside.
The last few kilometers take a fortune to pedal. The road E67 is stupidly overloaded by trucks which try my balance on the bike with spurts of lateral wind. The trucks with Lithuanian number plates feel courageous passing by cyclists as close as possible especially if they notice the Lithuanian flags with them. Nothing so pleasant… No need to ride here! (Nėra čia reikalo trainiotis su dviračiais po furistų plentą!)

The bum pain is killing me! Calming myself down! As Lithuanian proverb said: “a dog adapts to its death”… Well. I will adapt to this pain too.

At last I reach the camping in Zorgi village, named Labirinti. Feeling happy. Pleasant hosts with a huge smile on their face head me to the place where my dad is setting the tent and sister is preparing for the dinner.
