RE: TO MY GRANDSON, IN BIRTHDAY

in #family7 years ago

Beautiful rendition. Your grandson is so lucky to have a grandpa, who love him this much, and is not ashamed to say it. In our African society, it is a bit difficult for fathers to express how much they love their children, much more, grandchildren. Wishing you more of God's blessings sir. May he grow to know and appreciate how much he is loved and cherished

Thank you @vwoke, for your wonderful comments. I think the reason African fathers rarely openly display love to their own direct children is not because they love them less but because of the erroneous thinking that such might render the children weaklings. This is because at Fatherhood they're still learning the ropes. On the other hand, you'll observe that at grandfatherhood they openly show the affection for the grandchildren. This is partly a way to pay for not showing it directly to their own children and partly due to a dim, nostalgic recollection of how they too started out in life - the joyful, blissful, abandon-care-freedom and fun of the young child.

Thank you for your kind thoughts and best wishes for my grandson, @vwoke.

You are welcome sir
