Intergenerational Trauma: CPS's Role in Displacing Children for Centuries

In my first article in this series I gave a brief history of the Canadian Government's attempt to colonialize the people of The First Nations of Canada by stealing their children.

In my second article I focused on the cycle of sexual abuse ongoing in Native communities today as perpetuated by Residential School Syndrome.

Today I will share a ray of hope and talk about an advocacy group that is helping First Nations families bring their children home in Manitoba, Canada.

MORE THAN 11000 CHILDREN ARE WARDS OF MANITOBA

90% ARE INDIGENOUS BOYS AND GIRLS

TORN FROM THEIR HOMES AND PLACED IN CPS CARE 1

The First Nations Family Advocacy Office(FNFAO) of Manitoba Canada was opened on June 1st, 2015. With the guidance of Manitoba First Nations Cheifs and Elders, the FNFAO is using Indigenous knowledge, customary laws, traditions and belief systems to bring home First Nations Children that have been wrongfully removed from their families by the Canadian Government.

Furthermore, the FNFAO aims to support healing from the intergenerational trauma of the colonization of Canada's First Nations, through the sharing of traditional knowledge of Native Elders and Grandmothers, and uphold the First Nations Rights of the Child, Parent, Family, and Extended Family.

This is exactly the direction that needs to be explored in order for real healing to be achieved in these communities.

In May 2014 the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs held community engagement events in which First Nations families shared stories of the crimes committed against their families. The information gathered from these sessions was used to compile a list of recommendations for the government in a report titled “Bringing Our Children Home”(BOCH) This report was provided to both the federal and provincial governments.

The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs took matters into their own hands and without financial support from the government began to implement the principles of the BOCH report.

"Bringing Our Children Home" guiding principles:

FOCUSING ON A CARE MODEL BASED ON PREVENTION

ESTABLISHING A FIRST NATIONS ADVOCATE FOR FAMILIES

PROTECTING CULTURAL IDENTITY

RE-LEARNING TRADITIONAL PARENTING WAYS

RESPONDING TO THE YOUTH VOICE

PROMOTING FIRST NATIONS SOLUTIONS TO KEEP CHILDREN HOME

TRANSITIONING TO A FIRST NATIONS SYSTEM FOR CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES

REVITALIZING ORIGINAL SYSTEMS OF LIFE-LONG SUPPORTS

FOCUSING ON FIRST NATIONS SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH

REVOLUTIONIZING JUSTICE SYSTEM PRACTICES

The First Nations Family Advocate Office has already helped over 300 families in the fight for restoring their families. They are committed to bringing Indigenous children home and restoring these families, while giving them the support they need to heal from the trauma inflicted upon them by CPS (CFS). They are up against the billion dollar industry that is Child Welfare and institutionalization.

I intend to donate to The First Nations Family Advocate Office through funds raised from this and future Family Protection articles. I will continue to research and find more independent agencies for child welfare (outside of the governments CPS) and raise money to support them as well.

By sharing information on organizations such as FNFAO I hope to support them in their efforts to bring families together and heal. The abuses by the government need to stop, and I believe agencies such as FNFAO have what it takes to turn the system around.

I will continue to raise my voice for #FamilyProtection and expose the atrocities that families are facing and have faced in the cultural genocide of our First Nations Communities of Canada.

Thank you for reading and supporting the #FamilyProtection initiative.

Governments around the world,
are using "Child Protection Agencies"
to take children away from loving families
and place them in foster care or group homes
or put up for adoption.
THESE FAMILIES NEED PROTECTING.

Nice write-up, Amy.

The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs took matters into their own hands and without financial support from the government began to implement the principles of the BOCH report.

Sensible. It doesn't make sense to trust a government to rectify crimes with which it was complicit.

I intend to donate to The First Nations Family Advocate Office through funds raised from this and future Family Protection articles. I will continue to research and find more independent agencies for child welfare (outside of the governments CPS) and raise money to support them as well.

That's so touching. I hope you continue raising awareness and funds for this very important cause.

Cheers

Thanks @minnowbootcamp, I appreciate the support :)

excellent The developed nations, so to speak, have a fundamental duty to respond to these requests, a bit unfair and deficient. a motivation to tell my story, with the help of family and friends I will tell you, since it is not easy the repercussions that may come to have.

I hope you do share with us, we need to speak up together to start making things right :)

The family is defined in sociology as the basic cell in the body of the society. The family consists of a group of individuals with ties of kinship and uterus, divided into two parts, the nuclear family consisting of the husband and the children, the extended family consisting of grandma, grandparent, grandchildren and children. The elements of human society, it is like soil if the peace of the whole plant, and in it the individual learns and arises, and imprints the behavior of them, and affects and inherits to the offspring after him.
The family needs protection and security in order to ensure its continuity and survival, so that their happiness will not be realized and stability will not be achieved, and protection from basic human needs is considered important, through which the individual lives with peace of mind.
What I did today is wonderful, thank you dear @amymya

Thank you for you support Walid, your heartfelt responses mean a logt to me xoxo

Welcome dear@amymya

Thank you for educating us @amymya - Fantastic post :)

Thank you @nikkijmurphy, its important to raise awareness <3

Thank you for speaking out and giving these people a voice. The fact that this happened in the first place is a stain upon humanity and is equally testament to governments inhumanity. I fail to see how any official could have justified these actions as simply following orders and at some level they must accept responsibilty for the destruction they've brought to these peoples lives. The world isn't going to change overnight but step by step, if we stay true we can reclaim the highground. Thank you @amymya

Thanks for stopping by my post @perceptualflaws, all you say is true. I am going to do what I can to raise awareness and hope that in some small way I can make a difference. <3

Thank you for bringing this reprehensible government interference to the attention of us in the STEEM community. I am the uncle of a Cherokee, although I am not Native American myself. I also had foster-parents that were Puerto Rican (also descended from indigenous peoples. those of the Caribbean). It is terrible what has been perpetrated on these precious little ones.

I for one will be making it my business to ensure that this post hopefully hits the trending page. This is information that people need to be aware of, instead of petty flag wars and such.

G-D bless you for all you are doing. Have a great week. You are now on my personal TEAMGOOD list!
