What Happened To Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish's character? (Another Game of Thrones Theory)
WARNING! Spoilers ahead!
What Happened To Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish's character?
Game of Thrones recently had it's 6th season finale leaving our minds blown, hearts broken and skin crawling from excitement.
And it also revealed Littlefinger's true intentions, or did it?
As a hardcore Baelish fan; I thought it was ridiculous thinking that he wants the Iron throne, based on his previous acts. Just reminding you, it is Baelish we are talking about, THAT Baelish, who kills wives, King's hands and Kings, like it's no big deal, so I believe if anyone, he ought to know how dangerous it is to sit on the throne.
He knows that the King (or Queen) is just a puppet, and can be easily controlled by the small council or by other forces. I always pictured him as a man whose motivation is to gain power (being a King comes with power, but it's very risky), get revenge on those who mocked him and his house and getting the girl of his dreams (Sansa at the moment, altough he could want her for the North).
This attitude was pictured perfectly in the books and in the series, until this season's finale. That episode showed him to be weak (he is not), predictable (he is not) and desperate (he could be). To make a long story short: it made me think, why would the writers make him like that?
Now, that the books and series are going on their own paths, the show writers had the chance to change up characters a bit, and of course I'm not saying that they shouldn't, but it made me feel bad how they basically ereased 6 seasons of Littlefinger.
The reason why they might have written him like that is: they want to kill him. Think about it, season 6 fulfilled the dreams of every average viewer, by bringing Jon back, killing Ramsay, confirming the R+L=J theory etc, so it's no surprise, that people are suspecting that another widely hated character is going to face death in the 7th season.
But what could be possibly the reason to kill Baelish, when the only people who kind of see his true side are Sansa and Varys, to others he might seem like a harmless character, who just happens to know his sh*t. Whoever will sit on the throne has no reason to worry about him, he's just a noble man with no family or considerable army, only doing his duty as the Lord Paramount of the Trident.
But what if he's stepping out of the shadows and going for the throne (how could he even think he has a chance, no army, no right, he is not that stupid smh) he could very easily become a target and soon get killed. If the Gods are kind, it will be revealed that he only said it to Sansa to make her want to be with him, but I highly doubt that, since Sansa had her fair share of bad experiences with queens, and being soon-to-be-queen.
So this was my little summary of my thoughts on Baelish and how he turned out in the finale, and as much I wanted to share this with you I would also like to hear your opinion.
