Oranos (The End of A Concealment) : Chapter 1

in #fantasy6 years ago

The gurgling sound of seawater slamming the rocks of the shores sound frightening under a full moon that looks brightly lit beneath. A giant bird lands at the highest rock there, lurking around. He is not an ordinary bird. He is one unknown creature, or to be more precise, no one seems to believe they exist. His wings are as bright and white as the moon beneath him.

He stands on his feet while his bright blue eyes search deep into the fog of the sea. His jaw clenched as he feels disappointment rotting his throat. This is not where he wants to be and he is aware that he can only put the blame on him. Another bird flies to him so fast but yet so gracefully. The bird is not an ordinary bird as well. But its wings are as dark as the forest at night, solid black. As if you are staring for too long you will not find out how deep it will take you.

"Akenathon." says the dark bird.

Akenathon looks at him then shakes his head. "We have landed at the wrong place, my dear friend, Valir."

Valir lets out a small laugh as he flies closer to his best friend. He shakes his head, "Apparently, you always do that. You need me as your navigator, filos."

"That is true." Akenathon says. "Maybe."

Valir rolls his eyes then flies through the fog slowly as he has seen or heard something from within. He tilts his head to the left, trying to find out what is happening inside the fog. He tries and tries until a glimpse of light appears in sight. "Ake, I think we need to leave."

Akenathon, who was standing, flies to the sky next to his friend to find out more. As he studies what is happening, he begins to hear people shouting. The shouts sound desperate, more like begging for help. He flies further into the fog. He can not leave without knowing what is really going on. He had never heard people shouting like that, it is rather have him some goosebumps. Valir shakes his head as he follows his best friend who is flying so fast.

"Ake, what are you doing?" Shouts Valir.

"It is a warm wind, Valir, don't you think it is kind of weird?"

Valir nods, agreeing to his friend. "But come to think of it, it is very weird that we have crossed the border. Why bother leading ourselves to a much bigger danger, Ake?"

Akenathon stops then looks at Valir. "I think they are in grave danger. They are screaming, Valir."

Valir tries to understand the unfamiliar word but failed. "Screaming? What is it that you have been doing? You have to stop learning their language, Ake. It is very dangerous."

Akenathon starts flying through the fog, "Well I love my life a little bit dangerous."

As they fly closer, the lights are brighter and now they can feel it. They can feel the light. It is very very hot and Valir knows something bad will happen to them too if they come any closer. He grabs his friend by the arm and shakes his head. "Ake, please, let's just head back now."

Akenathon's blue eyes strike, he is full of anger. "Don't you see? They need our help! What is stopping you, my friend?"

Valir blocks the way, trying to stop his friend doing something foolish. "The fact that we can and will be seen by them is what stopping me. You have to come to a sense, Ake, they are very dangerous creatures."

Akenathon sighs then nods his head. "I agree." He says then flies away. Valir sighs in relieve but Akenathon looks back to him then to the people who are screaming so pitifully. "But I do not want to be a bad man."

And with that Akenathon flies so fast to the people who are in need of help. "Ake!" Valir calls out his name, hoping it will stop him. But a few seconds later the screams begin to muffle. Valir realizes there is no going back. He starts to fly, following his friend who stopped and is watching what happens.

Everybody looks at both of them, their hands try to reach Akenaton and Valir as their eyes are full of fear. "It's the boat! Their transportation is being burned."

"Then what in the clouds are we going to do, Akenathon? We are not heroes!"

"But we sure can help them!"

Akenathon starts flying to the people who are screaming and grab three of them to fly with him and Valir does the same. They fly to the shore, dropping them slowly to the land then head back to the burning boat. They do that almost a million times until they think everybody is safe. They fall to the grown, searching for air as they are exhausted for flying too fast and too intense.

Everyone makes a circle surrounding them then start talking nonsense while doing strange gestures with their hands. Valir looks at Akenathon with confuse, "What are they doing? Are they going to eat us?"

"Eat?" Akenathon chuckles. "They are not that savage, Valir, you need to stop."

"Explain to me what they are doing, then?"

Akenathon looks around him, "I think they are praying."

"Praying? to us?"

Akenathon nods. "The Edafos think that we are angels."

Valir looks around him in disbelief. "B-But angels are not meant to be seen in this dimension."

"It is because our ancestors deals with theirs."

Valir nods. "Tell them we are no angels, Ake, I don't want them to think that we are angels."

"So you agree? Them knowing we exist instead the fairy creature?"

Valir looks at his best friend, thoughts dancing inside his head. It is not what he wants but yes he wants them to know that they are not angels. "Tell them, Ake."

Akenathon smirks, knowing he lured his friend to his belief that the Edafos-the creatures of the land have to recognize them as Oranos-the creatures of the clouds instead of angels.

Both of them look at each other then look at the people around them. Akenathon clears his throat, "Listen, we are not angels."

Valir listens to his best friend talking in a foreign language then something caught his eyes. Something flying in the clouds. He looks closer then notices danger is coming to them. Before he could stop his best friend, he already finished his introduction.

"We are Oranos, the creatures of the clouds." Akenathon finished.
