The first part of the second gameweek of the new EPL season is just over. Let's see if we can find any trend in that avalanche of goals and stats just fresh from the oven... between Manchester-Everton on Monday night.

Summary

  • The best attack is to defend
  • Familiar failings, familiar faces
  • A for Assists
  • Strikers on the Rise

The best attack is to defend

Contrary to the first gameweek, where it was hard to find a clean sheet among the avalanche of goals, a lot of teams this week have managed to keep it tight in front of the goal this gameweek.

First and foremost, the giants in defense of Man U have done even better than usual: Eric Bailly has scored! Which makes him one of the most valuable defender of this week!

West Bromwich confirms that they have a watertight defense: they win by the tiniest margin and a second clean sheet on a row ensures that Hegazi tops the defenders charts with 21 points in two weeks. He is already at 4.6m, expects his stock to rise to 5.0 in no time!

Even Liverpool, usually so floppy in front of their own goal, has managed to keep its goalkeeper out of trouble!

And Leicester has easily managed to recover from the Arsenal thriller last week.

Familiar failings, familiar faces

In spite of the defeat endured by Arsenal at Stoke, I would not ditch already Lacazette. First, because he is in my own team and I would be very sad to have made such a mistake! And second, because he had a goal disallowed! Which means he actually scored! So for me, he is still in contention for the team of the year!

And the EPL is back on track now that Chelsea has beaten Spurs, thanks to not one but two goals by Marco Alonso. The guy is worth his 6.5m price tag and now that Chelsea is without Costa and Hazard, he could very well finish as the best striker of Chelsea! I'm only HALF joking. I wish I had taken him in my team... What a mistake! I hope you didn't made the same.

Assists, assists and more assists

Manchester United has already two victories and a 7 goal + difference. More importantly, their midfield is working at full strength: Mhkitarian has 2 more assists to claim, Pogba as well... This pair is worth its pound of gold! And considering that they are worth 8.0 each, they are not THAT expensive... Expect them to be snatched by thousands of players for their team!

And what about Mahrez? It's two more assists for him this gameweek! Not bad for someone who was expected to quit Leicester and whose summer has been – unlike Coutinho and Sigurdsson – rather quiet. He seems to be decided to play football rather than a chessgame with managers and agents. Good for him, good for your team!

Strikers on the Rise

Even if his two goals were not enough to salvage a point against Southampton, Chicharito's 13 points will convince anyone to keep him as a joker or to invest in him as long as he stays fit!

Same for Okazaki: Vardy seems to have a day off, and the Japanese pocket striker managed to grab a second goal in two games! Not to be sold at any cost!

Last but not least, Jesé Rodriguez has already one goal to claim after his start against Arsenal. At 6.0m, the former Real Madrid player may be a steal if he manages to put his mark on Stoke!

Voila! Of course, one game remains for the second gameweek: we will see tomorrow night how Man City and Everton will fare against each other, and see the impact on our Steemit leagues! Stay tuned!

Sort:

Jesé Rodriguez looks a good buy. I've transferred him in for week 3 already!

His price will rise for sure!

I could not resist. i had to do some serious reshuffling, so I played my wildcard to get Pogba, Mkhitarian, and Chicharito on my team. I'm pleased to have picked up Rooney from the start.

I have been suffering through a rash of red cards though. I had Cahill and Fabregas to start, of course. And then I dropped Cahill for Walker, and then he promptly gets a red! What the heck is going on?!

Wow, bad luck for you indeed on the red cards front :-/ A wildcard was therefore kind of necessary. I'm tempted to play mine too, but i know it's too early. A smart wildcard is played when you have too many redcards/injured players (in my opinion) or after mercato. Otherwise, it just helps to grab a quick buck on the transfer market. Patience is my operative word :)
